Cavilled again. ;) OK I'll rephrase the question:
Will these aforementioned TPE leased buffets likely get painted to match the NR, or left as they are?

They are temporary but how long for is the biggie. Would that warrant a repaint ? They are a bit; well; contrasting ?!
Also, now Caledonian not being changed until next year now.
Very early talks about up to 2 railtours being entertained for the open weekend next year. Although emphasise is on Cornish diesels, does not help that mainline is out of gauge for most certified GWR steam locos !!!

Would they let us go in any coaches like for example the refurbished buffet?

Its still very early days into planning but will post what I know when I can. A full NR set should be present somewhere as it will arrive sat AM and will have to be prepped for Sundays up not to mention the stock for other services. The daily workings still have to be catered for !
It would be nice to get the unique chance of lining up all four of our 57s for one photo opportunity...... .

That would be a nice lineup.
With open days I think it's safe to say that we're no longer in the days of old where they just taped off the running lines and said go where you like.
I'd keep the staff room out of bounds firstly though, don't want anyone pinching your biccie stash! ;)

The obvious candidates are the two buffets (10212/229) that TPE have on lease until the end of next year - no use for them with TPE, overhauls have already been paid for and the vehicles are on lease to a FirstGroup company. 10232 is a wreck anyway and out of mileage before it needs a C4 (and more!) - I believe it has already been mileage extended once.

Since the cat is out of the bag, then yes It is these two. Should be expected to return to the southwest shortly. It’ll be nice to see these two turn a wheel in more anger than their last holiday in the West Country! Unlikely to be re-liveried as they are only expected to be with GWR for a fairly short period.

Blue buffet 10232 taken back out of set today.
Last SLEPD to be refurbished 10616 due Oct 14 ish. This leaves just 1 buffet in service and 1 of each buffet and brake at Wolverton to be/being refurbished ( not incl 232 and ex TPE stock ).

So will the Up from PZ on Monday have a buffet?
I like to have a couple of Tributes before going off to bed after Plymouth

Blue buffet 10232 should be put into tomorrows Tuesday up set in use.
It was made aware to us to today that over the past rolling year, there has been an increase of an average of 10 beds per trip per day.
The train prep teams know it !
Anything to do with the refurbd seats on the seated coaches I wonder.........

This weekend the line is closed between Penzance and Truro so Sunday's 2115 Penzance to London Paddington Night Riviera service will start from Plymouth @ 23.59.
A service from Truro @ 21:45 to Plymouth will be running the 'normal' service pattern to connect with it.

Real train times has the Night Riviera arriving in Plymouth from Laira @ 22:12 but does anyone know at what time passengers will be allowed to board?
Would it be worth someone, say, getting the train before from Truro (@20:53) which arrives in Plymouth @ 22:15. How long would they be hanging around on the platform waiting for the Night Riviera to allow boarding?

This morning's down with 605 stopped at Plymouth with no power to coaches. Empty to PZ.
No sign of last refurbished SLEPD 10616 from Wolverton yet and "temporary" buffets from TPE may be delayed due to late introduction of their mk5s.

Hi there, after following this thread for a while, finally booked with a berth on the down sleeper on Friday night, 2nd Nov. First time since 2002 and first time behind the GM traction.

Are most of the berth cars now refurbished?

What time do people generally get to the Paddington lounge - is there much there in terms of complementary food or drink by that time on the evening?

What sort of food options are there onboard the train in the evenings?

I believe all the berths are refurbished now (but I could be wrong!) You can get in the Lounge from 10:00, sleeper boarding from 10:40. snacks and drinks (usually wine too) in the Lounge. Not sure about the onboard menu, but I don't think there is very much.

The last actual sleeper to be refurbished, 10616 has arrived. This now leaves just brake 17175 and buffet 10219 at Wolverton and buffet 10225 to be done.
No news regarding 10212,229 and 232 still on depot.

With all the negativity & downgrade of service across nearly all of UK rail - the refurb of the Night Riviera & of course the fabulous staff from Penzance means this is far and away the best train service in Britain by a Cornish Mile
