I wonder will those continue now they are not both Arriva TOCs? Mind you LM&XC / LNR&XC routes exist and those have never been under the same parent (except when it was one TOC in CT days - perhaps they originate from then?)

Doesn't seem logical to re programme systems with TfW if its to be discontinued after Oct 13- STAR will let me sell it beyond then anyway. There supreme good value for money fares- 11p per mile to/from London!

Thanks for the additional info. Just out of interest, what else can the system manually be triggered to announce?

Several variations of mind the gap. There's also a generic safety message (similar to what 175s play after major stations), one about changing for local bus services and one marked "sorry not in service". I'm assuming that one just puts that on the external displays and doesn't make any announcements but I've not had reason to try yet.....

Maybe they are referring to the Mobile Multiflex tickets, they are an Arriva Trains Wales product.

They have been very popular since their launch and I believe there will be a similar product available once the new app goes live on the 14th of October.

Also, any bought on the Arriva app will be able to be used up until the 13th January 2019.

From the horse's mouth, a tweet from TfW to this effect:

You’ll need to use your Multiflex tickets before the app switchover. We know December can be busy, so we’ll remind you nearer the time.
The switchover in question is moving from the existing ATW app (which will "keep running until the end of the year") to a new TfW one.

There really is something quite ironic here - the first sighting of a temporary livery is on a Pacer… is it the sign of things to come for the 'world class' Wales and Borders? :)
My guess is that 150's will come back from PRM mods in a new TfW livery, where as we obviously know Pacers won't be getting PRM'd.
That said, there's still no sighting of any PRM'd 150's, including of 150285. If we don't see it by end of October, or any other fully PRM'd 150's, what on earth is happening? (If anything)

Are they not doing the 158s first ?

Maybe, but it'll be interesting to see whether TfW/KA are more honest with passengers about when, or more likely if, the promised 769s are ever going to be arriving to ease the pain whilst PRM mods are ongoing.

Isn't 150285 in for Exams AND severe corrosion issues. Going on past form with some GWR 150s these can sometimes take months to deal with depending on the severity.

Don't expect too much, 'cause they rather dropped the ball with this tweet:

By the end of 2019, yes. But I expect most of their audience will have interpreted that as giving the pacers a shelf life of three months.

Yes, and at the moment TfW don't respond to comments left on their tweets either. I expect a lot more spin than honesty in the first few weeks and months.

Could those fares be kept on and simply reprogrammed as "Route: via High Wycombe"?

That would then make them valid on VTWC/WMT/LNWR/XC services (as Mid Wales to High Wycombe routing is valid by BHM INTL as well) and the revenue allocated by ORCATS. The CH & ATW keeps it in-house in Arriva - it looks like Keolis/TfW have done a deal with Chiltern to keep the fares - Chiltern are certainly benefiting financially even if they share with Keolis as its money that Virgin don't get.

How wordy we have become. Years ago the title selected would have been 'Welsh Transport' (in English). Now we have Transport for London instead of London Transport. Ulster Police call themselves something even more long-winded and so it goes on.

Yes but in the case of the PSNI, you have to be very careful what wording you use as certain words (including the term "Ulster" that you used) are offensive to certain members of the population there.

Transport for Wales is only 3 words and four syllables - I fail to see the problem here? Especially as it's the same amount of words and one syllable less then the previous operators name!

The Police Service of Northern Ireland changed their name from the Royal Ulster Constabulary for political reasons, of course.

I think Transport for Wales sounds better than Transport Wales, which we could have had.

And then of course there's (deep breath) Transport for the West Midlands...

There are 9 counties in Ulster, 6 in the North and 3 in the South.

The current names was originally going to be Northern Ireland Police Service until they realised the acronym was NIPS and it got changed to PSNI in hurry.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland call themselves that because the first suggested name after the Good Friday Agreement was "Northern Ireland Police Service", and soon enough the acronym "NIPS" was considered inappropriate.

"Royal Ulster Constabulary" was, of course, not going to stay after the peace process.

Then how about a highly appropriate Northern Ireland Constabulary Service? (Nics)? :)

OT (apols).

Those "CH & ATW" fares are actually valid on some WMT services (eg Crewe-Birmingham), as they come up as options on journey planners.
In an ownership sense it's odd they are not valid on XC, as it is "in the family" as much as is CH (for another 10 days).

Their very much about competing with Virgin for the ex Regional Railways Central west of Birmingham market to London. For the leisure market from here I find they beat Virgins AP fares 8/9 out of 10 sales we do. The walk from New St to Moor St is very easy and simple. The infrequent traveler tends to shy away from them as the phrase "change stations in Birmingham" can induce panic and some people will "dance on the head of a pin" looking to find a deal on Virgin when Chiltern is cheaper.

I suppose itl be because they dont want people onXC for the busy section between Wolves and Oxford

  • £27.4million for the Treherbert line for works along the full length of the line, including track doubling from north of Ynyswen to the south of Treorchy and north of Llwynypia to south of Dinas. The scheme also includes new platforms.
  • £23.7million for the Aberdare line for track doubling, new platform construction and other work so the service can increase to four trains per hour along the full length of the line from Abercynon to Aberdare. Track doubling will take place between Aberdare and Cwmbach, Fernhill and Penrhiwceiber, and north of Abercynon. The scheme includes a new platform, new step-free access and new waiting rooms at Aberdare, and an enhanced interchange at Abercynon.
