I understand that Snowdonia Travel has its first (?) vehicle. A Peugeot Boxer 16-seater, WF63 JZR. Any sightings?

I’ve seeb it quite a few times over the past few weeks. They’ve also got the Solo SR as well - I saw it the other week operating an Aviva staff bus service but haven’t seen it since.

I meant to post about this but you beat me to it!

New Adventure Travel tried this a couple of years ago (on the back of winning the Newport schools contract, since won back by municipal Newport Transport). NT successfully fought back that time, running as frequently as every 5 or 10 mins IIRC. They probably won't have the resources to do that this time. They can barely run their existing services at the moment.

That branding is almost exactly the same as Wessex Star. I wonder if Cityfox have paid for the copyright?

Compare with Wessex Star here

The operating centre is still shown on VOSA as Porthmadog so presumably a bit of dead mileage involved?

A new OC has been added, just not updated for some reason, I’ll chase Leeds today, this has reminded me, so thanks.

Newport Bus are in a very weak position at the moment, and a considerable number of people have given up on them completely (myself included) due to their reliability issues. If they can be slightly more professional than NAT group were with their attempts, it should do very well.

As a Newport local, I welcome any competition and I wish them well. Fantastic brand, by the way.

Hear, hear!

We'll have no less than six operators in the City, admittedly not all competing directly. NT, Stagecoach, Cardiff Bus, NAT, Phil Anslow and First.

It's irritating how we have all of those operators yet still fail to have any decent competition. NAT ran Newport close but the quality was never there. The buses were dirty and generally not as nice, the timetable was a work of fiction and I was amazed to arrive at Market Square one evening to find a large group of drivers having a remarkably heated argument over who was taking what bus!

With Newport Bus in the state they are, we desperately need (and will hugely benefit from) a professional outfit with decent staff, tidy buses and better timekeeping. Hopefully Rhys gives this a good go.

Newport isn’t somewhere I know, but does it not suffer from the usual additional peak time traffic that virtually every other town and city suffers from, or is the 30min round trip very slack off-peak, masking some padding in the timetable?

Newport certainly does suffer from peak time congestion.

NTs Bettws Services are allowed 35 mins off peak, 40 mins peak, 31 mins evenings.

Agreed. I should of course have said seven operators earlier. All those listed plus Cityfox

I assume some on here wondering about the depot didn't see your twitter feed pic of your new Newport depot! Good luck with this.

Presumably It's the ongoing issues First are having with the Bath Uni services, and have drafted in other companies to assist. Looks like on this occasion, the FoxStar bus broke down too

Hmm do Foxstar have any ‘ancient’ buses?

Was reported that Foxstar YJ14 BHN was doing RRS at Bristol Parkway but how would that end up breaking down on a regular service ? Hence my post asking could someone explain...........

Indeed - the two optares referred to, are solo YD63 VCL and versa YJ14 BHN, both have been in use on Rail Replacement and UOB U1 & U2 shuttles this week, and I’m pleased to say both are in working order; I will leave it to you to decide if they are ancient!

It's good to see you are finally getting the bus ops off the ground.

It would be good PR given your Twitter skills then to tell your (although indirect) customer @FinbowJack that he was wrong.............:frown:

@RhysHand do you have many other vehicles other than the 2 Optare? I’m having a debate on Facebook with someone who seems to hold a grudge against your operations, she’s insistent a 3 bus PVR can’t be maintained by you as you only have 3 discs, she doesn’t get that a disc can be moved between more than 3 vehicles. She’s now claiming you don’t have enough vehicles!

Thanks! We're very excited about it.

it's rarely good PR to argue with customers - often best just to let sleeping dogs lie. If he was making a massive thing about it then maybe, but looking at the replies his main beef seems to be about full buses driving past, which isn't really something we can comment on.

We currently have two Transits, a Peugeot Boxer and the optares. Unlike in the world of road haulage where licences are vehicle-specific, bus licences are transferable between vehicles, as long as the vehicles are all listed on the licence (which they are). Your facebook friend is actually right about needing more service buses, but tell her not to worry, it's all in hand! We'll be able to say more about fleet changes soon.
