If he doesn't mind saying I'd be interested to know too, as the fact he was successful every time indicates a failure by Miseryrail to issue PFs appropriately. Having met Chris I very much doubt he would be at fault.

Twice, I was 15, on a child ticket. RPI didn't believe me, so I got PFd

Once, I had an advance ticket to London, which included a hop into central Liverpool to catch a Pendolino out again. It was before 9:30am and a was using a YP card. My ticket was worth £7.90, under the minimum fare. So I was PFd

Once, I simply hadn't signed my railcard, but that was a breach of TandC's, and a PF.

I can't remember the other, give me a minute....

merseyrail gets a bulk list of appeal results and majority of pfs are upheld. the child rate ticket pfs are acceptable. what confuses me is the fact u say u hav had 5. all pfs are held on database an ur details are checked against it every time, therefore verifying ur age. also, the unsigned railcard i believe a pf as you hold no valid supporting document. as for a min fare pf, you would have been excessed if appropiate, what reason did they tick?

Virgin Advances are (or were) not subject to a minimum fare, and even if they were, it's no reason for a PF. PFs clearly do not work, as we have seen in other topics, they are given to law abiding people and deliberate evaders alike - that cannot be fair. They are fines in disguise as fares, but the fines are too low for real evaders, and unfairly high for genuine customers. The worst of both worlds.

Did the ticket office ask him to sign it? If not, I don't see how he can be "at fault".

Conditions of issue and use of the 16-25 Railcard (formerly Young Persons Railcard) and reduced priced tickets ('discounted tickets') bought with a 16-25 Railcard

1. You must sign the Railcard before use to show acceptance of all the Conditions as stated here.

The onus is on the passenger, not for someone in a ticket office to check. That is also assuming the ticket (and/or railcard) was bought from a member of staff as opposed to machine/online etc.

I tend to find myself agreeing with you in the other thread about revenue protection, but there is no way I can agree with you on this point.

The very first T+C says you must sign it. There is no way that you can defend that. It doesn't say you must sign it to purchase one.

By your thinking, if the railcard was bought at a station, should the ticket clerk not only make the customer sign it, but also read out in full all the terms and conditions, and record proof of this?

I assume he means meeting people at stations or car parks. Anyway, we got away with it!

Yeah I did, sorry if I didnt word it well, ill go edit that now :)

Thing is, say if someone (lets say they are young) came back late to the station and arranged to meet someone at the car park to take them home safely, will they take them to court? "No Mrs, im afraid your child will need to get on the late bus with all the rowdey drunks in future or we will take legal action"

If you don't sign it, you don't agree to the T+Cs...which say you have to sign it!

OK, technically, I was wrong, but a £20 penalty fare?

If you don't sign your Clubcard, then I think Tesco should charge you twice the value of all your shopping. Failure to do so makes you a salad dodger, even if you tried to pay for your salad. This is a serious offence!

There is no requirement to sign your clubcard though in the terms and conditions ;)

Having done several Merseyrail bashes, (need the shacks ;) ) I must say, I think they are a fairly well run outfit, and are merley just trying to phase out some of the behaviours that annoy the normal traveling public the most!
