This is exciting, it seems South Wales will yet again become the place to be for loco hauled trains. The Cardiff-Holyhead 57, and the two FGW loco hauled diagrams.
yay

Couldn't a 31 be used? Until late 2004 at least one Cardiff-Brighton return trip a week was worked by two Fragonset 31s and Mk2s.
I am sure that is everyone elses opinion especially if a class 57 or 47 is used.( I know it is looking likely that 1 of the arriva liveried class 57s is likely to be used.)
Besides since i am sure that there are run round facilities at paigton i wonder if it would be easier to just run the train with 1 locomotive instead of top & tailing?
Would need 2 and then you would need a through wired set as can't be double headed as run round is a farce.
What about Taunton and Cardiff? Can't run round there.....
Have the rear loco DIT

Running round at Paignton isn't a problem, quite frankly its a doddle, however i'd like to see it at Taunton and Cardiff!
Was just giving a local slice of Knowledge Rev
One of them was "Reverend Rems", but I guess it comes from some popular culture thing that I haven't seen if we have "Reverend Ryder" as well.

It has been rumoured that both diagrams will now be operated using the virgin trains class 57's from december 14th
One will be
Excellent stuff, still need 57301, 303, 310 & 311 for haulage and not much opportunity to get them these days since the daily North Wales drags finished.
has a knackered engine! all this i know you don't bollox!Well...ive got to say that you wont be able to ride behind 57301 for at least two months if that...and unlike the Railway Herald...i know the official reason...
Other that that i can tell you that its in eastleigh for heavy maintenance...

Mmm, well I've done Taunton to Cardiff via Bristol Temple Meads so I'm only really interested in Taunton to Paignton.
Need to get Taunton to Weymouth done and I've travel though Westbury on all possible routes.
Still I'm slowly getting there, all lines east of Reading have been done including to Basingstoke and Gatwick.

I heard 57/3s, which allowed the use of FGW drivers.
