Indeed but are all these four car sets creating an imbalance making it difficult to form seven cars for the E&G?

ScotRail already had a disproportionate number of three car sets delivered. 8 three car sets and 8 four car sets will be needed for a full seven car E&G service. As of right now they already have 14 three car sets and 10 four car sets delivered so seven car formations on E&G shouldn't be a problem once a sufficient number of drivers are trained and units are accepted.

Looking at RTT, there's no sign of the light engine movement happening. Am I right?

Why are all these cancellations happening ?
I don’t think they are true cancellations. RTT shows them as booked Wed, Thur, Fri this week, and it looks as if they are automatically activated exactly an hour before kick-off everyday, and then cancelled if not needed.

I think it’s come up before on other irregular delivery moves, it’s more a case of being easier to reserve more paths than you need and cancel, rather than booking them individually on the day.

But if the engine can return to Tyne yard, why can't it take the train with it?

But if the engine can return to Tyne yard, why can't it take the train with it?

Because the loco has to be attached to the unit at south end as it it leaves factory.

The route via Stockton is blocked due to signal cable theft.

The loco can return by going straight back up mainline from Darlington to Tyne Yard, this isn't possible with the 385 as would involve run round at Darlington.

Is there any word on the date for the next set to enter service? Seems to be plenty of 385’s in Scotland but only a few in service

4 more sets enter service on the E & G on Monday making half the service 385s and eliminating the 380s from the route.

The engine would require to run round the 385 at Darlington which it can’t do. The special coupling requires a forklift to pic it up hence why it goes via Stockton.

Thanks for the information, what exactly needs the forklift to pick it up?

On that point, ScotRail actually limit the distances that the 'Suburban' cl170's can travel between fuelling.
The Genius fuel miles are quite conservative, you can actually get over 1000 miles out of a Sub before it runs dry...

But haven't you got a whole new fleet of emu's and GT HSts up there.
K
They do have a whole new fleet of EMUs and GTi HSTs; however, they don't have the "whole" fleet of these whole new fleets. ScotRail still need a number of HST powercars, and only one rake of 26 HST trailers has been refurbished - so they're having to draft in a number of sets that still have slam doors.
Blame Hitachi & Wabtec.

If 385's replaced 380's this morning I think a 385 may have recently failed in/around Falkirk High.

Was waiting the 8:27 from Polmont and never arrived, then cancelled and subsequent trains E-G via Falkirk High trains cancelled as well.

As we crossed the bridge at Buchanan Galleries at 0845, I'm sure it was a 380 heading out to Edinburgh.

May have been. I recall seeing a post suggesting 385's replacing all the 380's on the E-G but that may not have happened entirely.

The 8:27 at Polmont has consistently been a 380 for months so thought the failure may have been a new 385, although of course, it may not have been.

Can I again remind members that this is a Traction and Rolling Stock thread for discussion of Scotrail Class 385 issues.

Topics relating to timetables, infrastructure, or anything else should be posted in the appropriate threads in the appropriate sub forums. Feel free to create a thread if there isn't one already.

If anyone wishes to discuss Class 170s going to Northern, please create a thread for that if there isn't one already. I have deleted a post enquiring about this (sorry!)

The main line is blocked in both directions by failed 385s, one at Falkirk High and one at Croy. Both door faults.
