Talk elsewhere seems to suggest the Class 33 and one coach on the rear still on the rails will take half the passengers to Shotton and then for the pair to return for the remaining passengers.

I've heard rumours they're unhooking the undamaged part which is to shuttle to Wrexham.

Well we sailed past Shotton without stopping so let's hope we are going to Wrexham! (Class 33 plus the single coach on the 33 end).

Rumour on the train is that Wrexham vice Shotton is due to the inadequate facilities for passengers of reduced mobility at the latter (there are two people in wheelchairs on the train).

How many coaches derailed, in part or completely, were derailed ?

Just the one as far as I know. But it was the third coach from the front (second from rear), at the front bogie.

I also heard reports that another coach derailed then rerailed itself but I can neither confirm nor deny this.

I hope this incident doesn't lead to a blanket ban on charters using unusual lines.
More of a concern might be whether the commercial enterprises involved decide that the risk of costs to recover when things go wrong exceed the rewards of running the charters.

Somewhere between WY372 and MV7
DB Cargo infrastructure according to the Tyrell reports.

And seeing as I was on a charter which did the same outside Southampton Eastern Docks a couple of years ago I doubt it is the end of charters using rare track!

Southampton Eastern Docks was officially a passenger line though.

Again, good to see the investigation completed so quickly.

We like to ensure that the RailUK Accident Investigation Branch is available at the drop of a hat to provide the highest quality guesswork and speculation to deal with incidents such as this <:D

Just back from the BLS tour and want to say a huge thanks to the BLS Stewards and response teams today who were very professional and kept us up to date during our 6 hours in the reception siding. It wasn't the day out I was expecting but not one that I will not forget in a hurry.

Haha, very good!
yes you need to gauge the situation and use the commonwealth off information available work out why the bogie is facing a bit off track
you also need to pandrol to the chair and work out if the key possibly has the fishplate not cracked up but bolted off

Quite a few disappointed photographers at Bidston this morning (including me!) - would have been interesting to see a diesel-hauled passenger train traversing the Merseyrail lines. I do hope they will try again at some point.

There's a VSTP schedule on Realtime Trains for 1Z88 1715 Dee Marsh Reception Sidings to Crewe. Presumably the locos+stock going home.

For the slow to catch on, like me, I believe the implication is that the track might have been out of gauge, I think the clue word is 'spread'?

My father and I had just boarded the West Kirby train at Birkenhead North when the message came through- in the end we settled for a return trip to Moreton so that we could stay on board a warm train rather than spending 25 minutes at Bidston! I suspect the MPV which came through on the West Kirby line shortly afterwards was a few people's consolation shot.

There seemed to be a handful of enthusiasts still at Bidston as we were heading back, presumably intent on taking the Wrexham train down to Shotton with a view to getting some shots of the rescue.
