I'd be worried if it was....that happens often enough now with 170s, mind you
with Wabtec struggling to carry out the full mods, is there any possibility of getting the toilets fitted with tanks, released into service then called back later to have the rest of the work done?

I doubt it - I think the structural mods for the doors & toilets are linked with each other. The toilets are new, its not a case of fitting CET tanks to the existing ones.

I'd like to think that this suggestion had been considered though, it certainly isn't a bad one

Admittedly I can't think of anything either. ScotRail have a very, very serious problem on their hands.
The problem wouldn't be so serious if Scotrail actually owned the Turbostars rather than leased them, so they wouldn't have to use the unrefurbished HSTs, but unfortunately (in this case) that's now how it works, and hence Scotrail now have huge problem.

Very few (if any) TOCs actually own their rolling stock. Only one I can think of is the small number of HST sets that GWR own outright. Not sure about any of the open access operators.

The vehicles you're thinking of are owned by First Group.

There are though, some 143s that are owned by the Great Western franchise holder.

GWR (First Greater Western Ltd, 05113733) is part of First Rail Holdings Limited - if memory serves it's that entity that owns the vehicles.
That is correct for the Class 143 vehicles (sets 143617-619 from memory) - they are designated "franchise assets" (like Class 08 shunters in a number of franchises) and would be transferred to a new franchisee if one was appointed. The HST stock is somewhat different, being owned by First Rail Holdings (effectively as the ROSCO) and are leased to GWR.

Duplication of a link posted in another thread and shameless plug:

Video of 43140 (leading) and 43036 (rear) + 4 GWR coaches (probably 44086; 42129; 42200 & 41158 but didn't catch the numbers) leaving Queen Street on an Eastfield to Perth training run on 7th November as 3H01.
If you want to avoid the boring bits about Queen Street, skip to 02' 01" to see (albeit briefly) the HST arrive and then 02' 26" to see it leave.

This post is discussing updates regarding the delivery of HSTs to Scotrail (HONEST).

That's what I meant, perhaps badly worded - I was referring to the HST sets :)

Agreed. B exam shouldn't take a week!

In fairness, LNER have been doing exams for a lot longer & possibly issues arisen with the refurbished components. It's not just the train crews that are on a steep learning curve with the HSTs...

It was in for TPM last week but as far as I’m aware it was scheduled, not in reaction to flats.

Seeing the green "classic" coaches makes me wonder whether the power cars should also be painted green to match: go for the full Highland Railway green "classic" look. Maybe reintroduce third class while we're at it.........:lol:

Third class has already be introduced. I am on the 170 to Inverness right now. Nice and quiet though so I can listen to the engines and think about the lack of power sockets whilst my laptop runs out of the charge it got on the 334 earlier.

I knew that someone wouldn't be able to resist making another jibe about 170's being 3rd class.
