Lot of HST activity this morning on the GWML, the 07:00 Paddington to Bristol was 8 car HST presumably covering for IET and passed what I presume was the 08:00 from Bristol around Corsham which was also HST.

0830/0900/930 padd - btm are hst

No they're not.

0830 - 800x2

0900 - 800/3

0930 - HST (as per recent weeks)

@Phil G - interesting observation re. 07:00 from Pad - that does look now to be a HST diagram again, which considering that train has been solid IET since about April, is an interesting development.

08:00 from Bristol has been HST throughout - it comes from Exeter.

Noticed this morning that 1K04 and 1K11 (Paddington to Newbury and back) was a 5-car IET - I think for the first time? (previously an HST, and in my experience very lightly-loaded west of Reading).

Could that have anything to do with Landore now fully closed.

See 50fan91's posts on the previous page for an explanation of some specific factors that apply this week that have resulted in a reshuffle of some diagrams.

There was a lot of HST activity last night out of Paddington. I think at one point there was no 800s in Paddington and 3 HST's at around 2000 which 2 services were the 1957 Plymouth and 2003 Western Super Mare.

Just out of curiosity I was booked in coach H on the 2003 which is only on a 800. Was this swapped last minute or a planned HST diagram due to the engineering works yesterday and the journey planners have not been updated for this?

Sun 18/11 the 20.03 Paddington - Weston SM was on an HST diagram.

From my observations, the reason there's more HSTs on the mainline, is due to the Cotswold closure, which ideally requires 5 car IETs due to if using HST, two drivers need to be rostered because of a walking route issue at Moreton-in-Marsh.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, however the walking route issue is true.

The walking route has certainly had to be moved, as the extension to platform 1 obliterated most of the previous one, but I don't know if the replacement route is out of bounds. Quite possible, as the station has contractors galore working all over the place this week with the other platform extension, platform resurfacing and construction of a new waiting room on platform 2 going on.

As alluded to on the previous page, lots of unusual diagrams this week due to the North Cots block. Most of the North Cots services are five car 800s, a couple of peak workings are nine car 800s and there's a few Turbos in the mix too. The displacement of a few HSTs away from the North Cots and the very important factor of not overfilling Old Oak Common means that some previously "regular" IET turns are HSTs purely to keep the sets moving, and not cluttering up Paddington or running unnecessary ECS mileage. The IETs have a depot with lots of available space at North Pole. There isn't the luxury of space at Old Oak Common anymore.

The walking route at Moreton in Marsh wasn't a particularly important factor in the provision of stock. The diagrams just fitted together better using 800s.

The 1200 BRI - PAD should be a HST on Friday, and I assume the same for the following Friday?

Does anyone know which trains from Penzance to London are booked HSTs from 10/12? Looking for M-F.

I assume no IETs stable overnight at Long Rock yet?

Provisionally one 5 car class 802 on Long Rock depot every night from 10th December. This may however change.

LTP has 1x 802 5 car starting at Long Rock to work 1A77 05.41 Penzance - Paddington. Another 5 car starting from Laira attaches at Plymouth so that 1A77 is 10 car from Plymouth - Paddington.

As ever this may be amended by the weekly STP.

Yes, seems like 1C92 1803 Paddington - Penzance goes over to a double Class 802 and detaches a set at Plymouth. Saturday the set forms 1A81 0900 Penzance to Paddington and attaches at Plymouth. Down direction set on Saturday evening is 1C86 1503 Paddington to Penzance running as 5 cars from Plymouth.

Anyway that is the proposed plan, wait and see what actually happens I suppose.

Many thanks for that. Probably do the 09:00 from Penzance?

One last question the 10:00 from Penzance comes from Plymouth in the morning is that a HST or IET from 10/12?

LTP diagrams have:
09.00 from Penzance on an HST diagram.

As is the 10.00 you ask about.

Usual disclaimers etc! :D
