I'm sure I read in Rail this week that one of them is delivered but held at the docks due to a lack of depot capacity.

Thanks, probably right then as the 3 roads on Longsight depot that were upgraded for TPE Mk5a sets are still not passed fit for use!

I hope TPE included this in any agreements as I know it can be very costly to have things stored at a dock if you have no agreement to do so or indeed go over any agreed timescales. A previous company I worked for was charged by the day for any items stored there that shouldn't be

Surely it will be CAF and not TPE paying for any storage as the sets are not accepted yet and there seems to be a big shortfall in secure sidings for storage.

It's a low speed (below 8mph) breaking issue, to put it simply. CAF have already started installing a fix according to the latest info.

Given the time taken sorting the Caledonian sets out, I don't quite believe that...

Why don't you believe it? If they're not just using pure friction brakes then I can well believe it being something that would take some time to sort out. Our lot had issues with low speed braking when first introduced.

Caught one of the 68s rolling into Scarborough on Saturday morning. No photo unfortunately - I was so surpised that I fumbled getting my phone out.

It will be even more surprising when you see a Class 68 at Scarborough with a set of Mk5as!!

Mentioned in the Class 397 thread was that a ROG Class 37 went Light Engine from Crewe to Manchester International Depot, Longsight to move a Mk5a set out for storage but then returned LE back to Crewe.
Can they not even get a Mk5a set to run dead with no systems working or was there another reason?

But at least driver training on Class 68s continues from Crewe.

Admittedly this is at York, but it's been sat there for a good week or two now, doing the invariable run up to Scarborough and back. It's been 68022 for awhile if anyone is interested.

There's obviously more than 1 way to obey a rule then! Anyway, no light for the benefit of the buffers, but a red facing the other way.
Hand-held lamp: A Bardic? or the normal battery/LED tail light?

When I was there, there was one of those handled lamps, that normally hook onto the back of the freight wagons, inside the cab.

Everything, including the tail lights go off when the Battery Isolation Switch is in.
Also to note that on a 68 you don't set the tail lighting as you leave the cab, you can only set it when you have changed ends and have a key in at the 'new' desk.

So is there any sign of movements for testing again of the Nova 3 (Mk5a) sets. This below 8 mph breaking issue seems to be taking forever to overcome.
Hope the last few sets get sorted by CAF in Spain.
