I'd heard something very similar. Here's hoping anyway.
Sounds like things are moving along nicely

Good news for those in the talent bank:
"We're training more new drivers. Eight started duties in July. In total 24 will join this year and a third training school will be running by the end of this year."

That is good news. Happy to see that they are pushing forward with the training. I wonder when the lucky 8 will find out.

They are losing drivers left, right and centre so there will be back to back courses throughout 2019 and possibly/probably into 2020.

Is that just due to retirement and natural progression or is there any other reason people are jumping ship so to speak?.

Majority jumping ship because of much better pay and conditions elsewhere, Metro lowest paid drivers in the country. Progression within metro to other roles and retirements also.

Next course in September I think! I’m not on it, but if it’s a rate of three per year then that’s cracking news for those in the holding pool!

Midland Metro Tram drivers get paid £17k for training and up to £19k after 3 years fully productive. It's a joke.

How do you know you are not on it?.
Are you aware of others have been informed about a start date?.

I didn’t want to miss a phone call when abroad so I rang to ask when the next course was, and was told that it started in September and all candidates had been contacted.

The pace the courses are going at can only be a good thing!

Looks like a fair few new drivers being trained at the minute, lots of orange training screens up.

There is a fresh school out on the system now, 6 new drivers I believe, although they aren't driving yet. Although those 6 are nothing considering the mass exodus continues to mainline/freight TOCs. Another 8 drivers have left recently.

Drivers are being instructed between TDK and SSS due to the new layout between CHI and SSS.

Hi modernrailway. Do you work for the metro? Do you believe they will be running another training course for those in the holding bank once this current training school finishes?

Without a doubt. They think it's going to be a constant thing training new drivers, whereas it used to be a single intake every couple of years, it's now looking at being a couple of intakes every year. I believe there will be jobs put out next year, early February is being rumoured.

You mean it’s rumoured there’ll be more driver jobs advertised? If so I’ve never known them hire so many drivers or go through the talent bank so quickly before.

Not a rumour. It’s a revolving door at the moment with drivers, and I believe it’s similar on the CS side of things too.

Evidently, a lot of drivers are not happy there! The pay looks terrible, and the holidays are pretty bad too

There has been a mass exodus since this time last year, probably between 20-30 drivers who have either gone to other TOCs/FOCs or are due to leave in the next few months. This isn't including those due to retire. Word has it that drivers are being balloted for strike action as this year's pay offer is a load of crap.
