I think that if they display a price per pint then they have to sell a half pint at half the price unless they specifically show a half pint price as well.

I don't think that there are any pricing regulations except in Scotland where minimum prices were recently introduced. I think that local licensing authorities might have some powers like controlling 'happy hours' if there is a likely public nuisance problem.

Fullers have applied to open a pub on Liverpool St station roughly opposite the current Wetherspoons where Ponti's used to be, to be called the Parcel Office.

Will be interesting to see what that does to the Wetherspoons custom. Not much I guess. A few years ago that Wetherspoons had the highest take of anybin the country, wonder if it still does?

Might reduce the big crowds outside Wetherspoons on match days, but the site for the Fullers Pub is kind of long and narrow. Be interesting to see how they fit it out. Should have called it the Control Office in honour of Room 99 Hamilton House, which once stood above the station.

I wish fuller's would hurry up with the never ending development at Euston of the signal box, should have opened years ago! Anyone know what the heck is going on? The Ssp pub up there, the Shakespeare closed years ago. Also I wonder if Doric arch will close if/when signal box ever opens?

I know that Fullers pubs tend to be more pricey (note Kings Cross), however the beer is good and one can usually find somewhere to sit down, so I would likely use it on my occasional trips via Liverpool Street.

This http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/1975/1737/pdfs/uksi_19751737_en.pdf was the relative Statutory Instrument. Various changes were made over the years but there is no point in listing them as the relevant SIs etc were repealed upon introduction of The Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008.

Therefor this nonsense that pubs etc have to charge 50% of the price of a pint for a half pint (rounded to the nearest 5p/10p) is nonsense, or at least has been for the last decade.

You'd hope not. After all the station and general area has always had several pubs (and lost the Bree Louise to HS2)

While I've been plenty of places where the price of a half isn't half the price of a pint (after all some costs barely change, no matter what the drinker is buying), I've never encountered anwhere with such a variation from the 'half price' when buying a half.
Just back from a visit to Germany where in quite a few bars, the difference between 30cl and 50cl was quite small, e.g. eu3.30 for 30cl vs eu3.80 for 50cl.

The price differential between 50cl and 100cl was generally in proportion, so maybe the 30cl rate is a form of minimum pricing by the bar, since it still needs someone to take the order, bring it to the table, collect the empty, and wash it up, all of which are the same regardless of glass size. Arguably users of smaller glasses will often occupy a seat for just as long, since they'll probably be drinking slower!

WRT The Doric Arch it would be surprising if Fullers closed it for two reasons:
1 They paid a lot of money to buy the site/ongoing business. Unless of course Network Rail have other plans for the site (and pay lots of compo).
2 lt would be likely that if Fullers closed it another pub company would open (well established profitable site etc) on the site.

Seeing as the "Good pubs near stations" thread has been locked and redirects here I will draw two comments together.
1) The Good Beer Guide (about £15) and its app (about £5) have a limited number of pubs/bars/clubs in each place... and it the paper version's already 1040 pages!
2) Whatpub (https://whatpub.com/) has all the pubs in an area, searchable by availability of food, real ale and about 50 other characteristics and seems to offer the station as an option if you start typing in the name of a town with one.
I never go exploring without looking at it first!

I agree, WhatPub is an excellent resource. However, do treat it with caution occasionally. I've used it to help plan a few events, such as our annual Easter Pub Crawl, and discovered that, of the two pubs in Normanton which it listed as doing real ale, one had had the hand pump removed, and the other clearly didn't often sell any. The moral of the story - don't bother going to Normanton if you want decent beer!

As with any other resource, WhatPub is as accurate as those responsible for its upkeep can make it - but in this case, such persons are usually CaMRA branch members, who do not always have as much "spare" time as they would like in order to maintain a totally accurate picture. Things do change - beer range, opening hours, a new licensee, or example - and there is not always a CaMRA member "in the know" to update WhatPub immediately.

On the entry for each pub, there is a paragraph which reads:
'Seen some incorrect or missing details? Fill in the feedback form to submit your updates.'

The words 'Fill in the feedback form' are a hyperlink, clicking which will generate a pro-forma for the user to complete, in order to detail the error/omission. Clicking 'Send to CaMRA', at the bottom of this pro-forma generates an email to the nominated contact(s) for the branch in whose area the pub is located. They will (or at least should!) check out the information, and update / correct / create an entry where appropriate.

(and please let's not get into the semantics of how you can "see" "missing details" - that topic has been done to death at several CaMRA branch meetings!)

New Street or Snow Hill? :)

I always allow myself 8 or 9 minutes to the latter, which gives a comfortable margin, so the walking time is no more than 5.

As well as the usual suspects at or next to Liverpool Lime Street (North Western and Blacklers spoons, Ma Egertons and The Crown) if you walk along Lime Street towards the Adelphi (worst hotel in the UK!) you will find Sanctuary Bar & Beer Emporium which is opposite the The Vines "Big House" (recently reopened chav/wooltastic karaoke/fight/Carling pub!)

Sanctuary has a good range of real ales and craft beers on cask, keg and in bottles and cans.

New St from Wellie, the Fullers Old Joint Stock is slightly closer for Snow Hill.

No there has got to be worse. But the Adelphi does have some of the best chandeliers which BR moved from the Queens Hotel which used to front Birmingham New Street Station.

Pwllheli has a good W'spoons across the road from the station, always seems to have a decent selection of different and being a small town you don't get the typical clientele. A contrast to the avoidable PoW outside Cardiff Central and the pidgeon infested tables at another Welsh terminus.

Not looking to go through it all - but, the John Wallace Linton in Newport, a Spoons. Roughly opposite the former entrance/exit and thus a 2 to 3 minute walk from the revised format.

PO Vaults - leaving at xx:58 gives 7 minutes before the yy:05 service arrives at platform 1 from Shkotland. This leaves adequate time to use the station 'facilities' after a few and get downstairs as it arrives to leave at 10 past. Allow an extra minute if leaving from P6 or further afield. I've done this once or twice....

On a pub crawl with a pal we sought out and liked the PO vaults, but it must have a record for the least conspicuous pub entrance - we walked past it twice before we found it!
