If I had to choose, I'd say the league (Liverpool haven't won it since I was born), but I do agree we need to try to focus on every competition we're participating in rather than just one. For this season, I'd be more than happy with a good challenge for the league. In the summer, I think we need to sign another attacking midfielder as a replacement for Coutinho and a top quality striker.
You have already got four top quality forwards, how would you accommodate and attract another without selling one?

Liverpool 1-0 Napoli.

A goal from Mohamed Salah and a vital Alisson Becker save were enough for us to qualify for the last 16 of the Champions League.

And with Spurs getting lucky with a draw against the Barca B-team and Milan failing to beat the dutch, makes it all 4 English teams into the last 16.

Great to see the attempted bottle job by Tottenham fail because other clubs were slightly more useless. Best manager in the world who isnt Pep Pochetino was full of it.

( just a note. Prizes won by Poch: 2 x Premier League Manager of the month)

Pretty sure Milan didn't play a Dutch team last night

Correct: Football Club Internazionale Milano played Philips Sport Vereniging - Top flight pedantry there Kevin. Hes hung it up to the back post and the lad Mini has arrived like a train ;)

(Associazione Calcio Milan will play Olympiacos in the Europa League)

It's amazing how bitter some football supporters come across as!

Anyway it is correct to call AC Milan 'Milan' but you can't call Inter just 'Milan', here is a post which sums up the situation:
https://www.quora.com/Why-is-AC-Milan-called-Milan-and-Inter-Milan-called-Inter

First, you must realize that the name of AC Milan deliberately shows the name of the city in English, instead of Italian (Milano). Italian fans leave the word untranslated. Simply, the name of the club is “Milan”, and it is an association devoted to the practice of football, hence the words “Associazione Calcio” that accompany the club’s name.

However, the name of their nerazzurri neighbors is FC Internazionale, Inter for short, a club which happens to be also based in Milan, Italy....

...It is different, however, in Manchester, where I think it would be incorrect to refer to any of their two main clubs simply as “Manchester”, and you would need to especify whether you are talking about the “United” or “the City” -if I am wrong here, happy to be corrected.

Sturridge is a good player, but his contract expires in the summer and I have a feeling he might leave.

If he does, then we'll need to sign a top quality striker to replace him.
Are Liverpool in contract talks with him?

Oldham 4-2 Bury

In this Greater Manchester derby match Oldham beat in form Bury which I through Latics deserve victory. Oldham were 3-0 up inside 30 mins and knowing Bury got two goals inside 10 mins of second half restart, I thought Bury were very poor team and didn't look like team who are fourth in table.

Another planet...
Huddersfield 0 - 1 Newcastle

Once again we put in a decent performance but lose out to the odd goal. We weren't quite at our strongest with Aaron Mooy out and his main deputy Danny Williams also injured yet again. We did okay though with Juninho Bacuna and Chris Löwe both stepping into the vacant midfield position at times and linking well with Alex Pritchard.
We still can't score though. Laurent Depoitre looks unfit and has done all season, Steve Mounié will no doubt return against Southampton but he hasn't scored all season either. If we had someone who could put the pig's bladder in the onion bag we'd be mid-table and comfortable.

As it is, we may well be swapping places with our near neighbours down the A62... o_O:frown:

Chorley 3 v Darlo 2. Sigh. Darlo took the lead. Threw away things by giving 3 soft goals away, got one back then missed a good chance at the death. Both goals through new loan signing Andrew Nelson who we have for a month from Sunderland. That was the postive along with a first start for a kid on loan from Leeds. The negatives: clueless, disorganized, powder puff defending.

We are going down.

Because of your posts I find myself checking Darlington’s results each week (masochistically).
Ouch. But fair play Darlo.

Does anyone fancy a prediction of the Liverpool - Man United result tomorrow?
Will it be one of the few games that Jose actually motivates his team for this season?
Will it be a low scoring draw (probably my prediction)?
Will Liverpool do em?

I’m taking our young German exchange student to see it at a friends house. Hopefully it’ll be a decent game...

I need to recommend Sunderland 'Til I Die on Netflix. I come from a family of Sunderland fans so It is painful but unmissable. It shows a club in crisis slipping towards relegation.

It should be compared to the Manchester City documentary as two opposite sides of the same coin. The worrying thins is it could be almost anyone of our clubs.

Respect mate.

I might write a book about that time. The last 10 years have been mental.

I'm sick of Stockport, they've knocked us out of the Cup AND the Trophy this season, and got our best (well, only) striker sent off just in time for him to be banned for us playing them as the Boxing Day/New Years derby

As it is a Saturday, its about time for a "Willie" update.

Fort William 1 ... Huntly 6

I was surprised that the match was played as quite a number of Highland League matches were not played owing to prevailing weather conditions. The Fort William record for this season makes for sad reading, but should offer solace to supporters of other teams on this thread who are depressed by their own teams performances this season:-
P19...W0 D2 L17...GF13 GA136...Pts -7 (Owing to points deduction).

They do seem (in a relative way) to be slightly improving this season compared to the last.
In a couple of years they may be able to start holding their own?

Liverpool 3-1 Manchester United.

Super sub Xherdan Shaqiri came off the bench to score a brace and earn us a 3-1 victory over our rivals, with the first of his two goals coming just 144 seconds after coming onto the pitch.

Earlier in the game, an error from Alisson gifted United an unlikely equaliser after Sadio Mané's opening goal.

Hips don't lie. Shaqiri, Shaqiri. Apologies but I am delighted we completely spanked Man U. They were hardly in the game. Allison made it a bit more exciting for a while.

That's the worst I've ever seen United play against us.
