Or JMB buses. First have tried to operate this route before and it never lasts with them. Its possible it could go to the wall, its never busy half the time, and on school holidays its ever 40mins.

Don’t think the Coakley circulars were ever really troubled by passengers – how they’ve survived this long is a mystery. They pick up decent numbers of schoolkids at Uddingston and Bellshill (and First might struggle capacity-wise at 3.30), but otherwise just a few pensioners. But a decade ago they were running 40-50 buses – badly, most of the time. Don’t think I’ll ever forgive them for buying ex-Lothian Olympians in tip-top condition and proceeding to trash them in under six months!

First would be mad to try and replace the circulars, but an extra school bus from Cardinal Newman would make sense.

First could maybe extend the short 255 as a lot of kids from Birkenshaw area travel to uddingston grammar as for cardinal Newman the 240 is already every 5 minutes here

Remember they used them to the City Centre !

Coakley have ‘closed down’ (either voluntarily or by order) several times in the past and have an uncanny knack of re-emerging. For whatever reason, they seem determined to run buses in Lanarkshire. But I think this is the first time that there have been no Coakley services at all (the circulars survived the last collapse as they were on a different license). Suspect SPT may have to get involved to provide an Uddingston – Viewpark link.

Noticed 3 of the new E200MMCs with pink branding at Caledonia today. Still seems odd as to where they’re going.

Also saw a B7L and a B10BLE with what looked like trade plates at the front of them. Wondering if these are going for the scrap man :(

Any news on a replacement of the 107/109?

Given coakley are still registered to operate the service but choosing not to I doubt the traffic commissioner will allow any other operator to register a service under short notice at this time.

Which is very unfair for people living in the electric scheme in Holytown who have no direct service to Bellshill or Hamilton currently. Holytown Road and Main Street at least have the 235/236 Minibus from Harthill. Coakley were absolutely awful (drivers skipping parts of route to get in front of First, dreadful buses etc) but at least it was a service

I reckon that any replacement will have to be SPT-funded. First already run over the busiest sections and I doubt anyone else will see it being worth their while. Agree that Coakley were awful (my candidate for Scotland’s worst operator for a long time now), but it is shame that we end up losing these marginal routes. Maybe drop an email to your Councillor – they seem to have a lot of influence with SPT.

You cannot just extend a route you need to go through the registration process and as has been said above Coakley are still registered to run the route but are not this is hampering anyone from going on the route as the traffic commissioner only allows emergency registrations once the operator informs them they are no longer operating

If you can prove the other company has grabbed its football and gone home then surly TC would give you the short notice in a snap?

I would imagine someone from the TCs office would have to actually come out and witness their non operating before allowing this. I would have thought SPT would have at least got involved for the sake of the school kids who used this bus but nothing so far

I see the Streetlites are starting to turn up on pretty random routes since being displaced from the 34/34A. I saw one on the 2 to Airdrie. I thought the intention was for them to go to Lanarkshire for the 242 or 266?

At least 3 of these now at Overtown.

1 is on the 240 the other 2 on the 266 still carrying simplicity branding

this I believe is an option being explored with An emergency registration ,the 255 short working being extended to birkenshaw ,Bellshill ,mossend, part NS then onto Holytown

I know for a fact first surveyed the 107/109 in the week prior to Coakley ceasing to operate. As for emergency registration coakley have still not unregistered the service so not sure if anything can be done yet.

Would appear that the streetlites from Caledonia are not replacing B10s at Overtown as 3 B7RLEs have gone in the opposite direction. They are also at the moment not being used on the 242 which is seeing its usual allocation of B10s or darts

I think it makes most sense for the Streetlites to go to Overtown. They could be used on the 266 or 242. I mean they are new buses and would run well alongside the new stock which is arriving on lanarkshire locals. They’ll probably find their way on to the 240s/255s also so they’ll have quite a good run.

The fleet profile at Overtown must be getting pretty skewed – new buses for 241; newish buses on 240; more Streetlites. Maybe the accountants need to keep older stock to make the numbers work?

Pink 68 plate E300 on the 60 tonight, first one I’ve seen. Is this what they’re supposed to look like or is there branding text missing? Also noticed the old E400s seem to be spreading their wings onto the various 38s etc

Any inside info on what this and other changes might be?
It has been over a year since any changes have been made other than the minor timetable alterations and the JMB actions.

They could likely be another small change, given the date of the changes i'd assume we'll know before Christmas.
