Taking an elderly transport enthusiast relative, who hasn't been in about 5 years, to London, is there anything new for him to see transport wise whilst we are there?

We arrive Marylebone at 1040

We leave Marylebone at 1815

Just one suggestion, others will add more. A trip out of Paddington to Ealing Broadway on a TfL 345 (they work the Hayes and Harlington terminators) would reveal the Crossrail progress, even if it has been delayed. Old Oak area is constantly changing, and easy to do from Marylebone.

In terms of new stock, you have the 700s on Thameslink and the 707s out on South Western Railway.

London Bridge station also looks a bit different now...

Transport related really as they're from London originally.

We're off to the LT Museum Shop and Ian Allan

London Bridge and Thameslink plus Class 345 from Paddington is a good start.

If you are doing Thameslink, the a step back at Blackfriars is worth it for the view. Then if possible, fit in a ride to Finsbury Park through the Canal tunnels. Possibly a last ride in a GN313 and maybe a whilst going for a GE 345 ride, take a last ride on a 315.
There's also the Crossrail civil around Abbey Wood, - new station, depot and lots of OLE!

I don't think any (or at least many) class 717s are running out of moorgate yet.

How about altering it slightly for class 700 Finsbury Park to Blackfriars, then one back to City Thameslink (sit at back of train and come out Ludgate Hill exit), then a Heritage 15 Routemaster down to Savoy Street (Strand) and walk up to LT Museum from there. All First Class at back of 700s is declassified and some services are declassified completely, but ones from Finsbury Park are not and have first class in operation at the front.

Also see if you can get a class 315 Stratford to Liverpool Street or a Greater Anglia loco hauled class 90 and Mark III stock if you time it right and save the 345 for Ealing to Paddington. The 27 bus from Paddington also goes fairly near Marylebone.

Woolwich Ferry isn't running this Thursday unfortunately, maybe Abbey Wood to Lewisham on a 180 bus, then DLR to Stratford changing at Canary Wharf for Tfl Rail Stratford to Liverpool Street. Or get to Lewisham/Blackheath/North Greenwich for 108 bus to Stratford through Blackwall Tunnel.

You can walk through the Woolwich Foot Tunnel if that helps.
quite a trek.
There was a TV show where they tried to prove a ducks quack didnt echo. they took it in the tunnel and made it quack and it echoed. Might have been Braniac.

I'd go to farringdon to watch them changing over from 25kv to 3rd rail. have a go on the DLR, especially of you can sit at the front. and go to Earls Court district line platforms and just marvel at the busyness of the place.
And lastly, end up at Mornington Crescent!

I do like the Leslie Greens red tile stations that were the UERL standard design.

Got to be a relatively fit elderly person to do that, combined with all the other activities. It's one of those that's longer than it seems, particularly from the Woolwich end because the 'dip' comes well before the halfway point.

I do find the Epping branch really nice, and one I keep coming back to. You could also tube it up to Amersham in the very top left and use Chiltern back down.

Or you've got the Chiltern out of Paddington?? (Or wherever the parliamentary service has changed to now)
