The Cornish boxes are PZ (4 - lever frame working electric lights); St Erth 4 (frame); Roskear - was switches on the blockshelf (lol) but now a panel and I think is now a Gd3; Truro (frame - very busy) Gd4; Par (frame/panel for Burngullow - Probus) 4; St Blazey (frame - token is a 2?); Goonbarrow J (frame/token machine 2); Lostwithiel (frame/panel for Largin - 4); Liskeard is a 3 from memory.

Plywood is a 6 as is Exeter Panel. Crediton is a 3 and Paignton a 2 I think. Exmouth J is a 4 I believe and there is the crossing keeper at Red Cow.

Getting into Exeter is a bit dead men's shoes..

There have been periodic threats to resignal Cornwall but nothing seems to occur. I moved away after the last threat. Very much their own guys who will help you out if needed. There are some seriously time served and grizzled signallers down there.

St Erth is a 3, Roskear still a 2 at the moment but subject to re-evaluation & St Blazey is a 3.

A lad at my old place landed a job as Exeter area relief based at Exmouth Junction, loves it by all accounts.

I wonder if the Cornish ROC will see the light of day lol

The two jobs are at Penzance SB and Par SB, both 24/7 SB and secure as you can be down in Cornwall.

Both are traditional SB buildings, Penzance has a NX Panel replacing its levers and Par has a frame and I think a small recently installed NX panel.

Rosters I think are a mix of 8hrs Mon-Fri with 12hrs over the weekend, both Grade 4 jobs.

There is a internal job at Plymouth panel at the moment, the 2nd time in about 5 months so there is always room to move if you wish.

The Cornish SB do it seems struggle to recruit so your previous RN service might well sever you well if you can sell it the right way once the app.

Numerous staff working for NR in Cornwall are ex military. Panel in Par was installed in 1985/6 following closure of Burngullow Jn SB.

For additional info St Erth & St Blazey went 24 hours from last January and I believe there are similar plans for Crediton in Devon.

Might be useful information should any vacancies crop up at these locations in the future.

Evening all,

I've tried searching but can't find a clear answer. Are medicals conducted at one national location or are there multiple locations? If multiple, does anyone know where they are?

When the offer pack is sent out with the medical forms that you have to fill in can you book your medical at this point? Or do you have to send the medical forms back and wait for them to be received by the medical company?

Regards

HR assist do the medics on behalf of NR. Have locations all over. I was offered Liverpool as it was my closest but I said I was able to travel, Manchester was another suggestion from them but ultimately not needed. it's all outsourced so they'll have locations everywhere as they don't just do NR, my current employer actually uses them too.

Offer pack was an email but medical was booked over the phone. I received a call from a witheld number on the same day as the offer pack so worth answering all calls, email followed to confirm. Was booked and seen less than two weeks after.

To confirm what others have said, my mate was sent to a place in London, whereas I went to Cardiff both for the same location so it depends on your availability as to where they send you.

Anyone able to help a fairly new signaller get their head around bank holiday pay, LROP and HROP?

What happens if a bank holiday falls on your usual day off? You get a day off in lieu but what about lower and higher rate of pay?

If a bank holiday falls on your normal shift pattern but you've been booked off (as I have been for Christmas day as the box is shut) I assume you lose your lieu day? Also what happens to lower and higher rate of pay?

Any help is appreciated!

I think if your booked to work but booked off you get a CL + RoP ?

If your RD you just get a CL?

I’d be interested to know 100% as I’m in the same boat as you booked off 25th and 26th, but working nights on the 24th.

Booked to work and booked off, single rate of pay, no comp leave.

Rest day, not worked, low rate of pay (shown as LROP on the roster but it might be single rate) + comp day

Hi all,

Random question....Would the hiring managers be able to see what positions you've applied for / application status etc on your job profile? I had an interview recently and wasn't sure whether it was a good idea to mention that I've passed the assessments for a higher grade position elsewhere...would they have already known?

Did anyone on here apply for the position at Denton Village?

Beaten to it by the post above but perhaps it’s worth pointing out that the Signalling Grades Restructuring Agreement book (where you’ll find the answer to your bank holiday questions), the National Rostering Principles, the 1985 Conditions of Service, etc.. etc.. are available for you to read at your leisure in the member’s section of the RMT website. If you’re a member, that is, and if you can successfully navigate its labyrinthine layout. It’s well worth seeking out copies of these documents for your own interest and peace of mind.

If you're booked to work then surely you get a lieu day as bank holidays are included in your annual leave allowance?

EDIT: sorry I misread your post! I see what you mean now, cheers!

I'm working the nights on 24th too and I've heard that you don't get any bank holiday premiums for that even though technically you're working Christmas day morning as the shift is classed as the 24th, if that makes sense? No idea if it's correct through!

Seems like a bum deal if your booked to work, but booked off.

I don’t think so no, all they see is the information relative to the app their recruiting for.

Cheers for pointing me in the right direction!

Just been reading the National Fostering Principles document and section 4.2 says "No more than two weeks of annual leave shall be rostered on night turns of duty".

Seems strange to limit where you can take your annual leave, I guess it's possibly due to night turns being harder to find cover?

We could do with a sticky linked to this thread, showing the current pay matrix, most common bank holiday pay/rostering queries etc.

I think it would be good to have a link to a spreadsheet where people can add their signal box and the current shift pattern of that box. I see that question asked all the time.

I didn’t get offered the Cardiff Signaller posts or Carmarthen signaller jobs advertised, however i’d like to wish whoever had the jobs congratulations!

You’ve just joined a job / company for life which is very rare this day and age!

I’ll keep persevering & thanks to everyone for the information in this thread.

I’ve no idea now, I do know I’m (insert bad word) about it though.

That’s correct. As you’re shift starts on the 24th then you miss out I believe. This is the same for ANY night shift on into a bank holiday. However, if you’re working a night shift ON a bank holiday into a normal day (1900-0700, or 2300-0700), always take the LROP, as you ARE entitled to a comp day, whereas taking HROP you will only receive higher rate for the hours worked on the bank holiday.
