Thanks for sharing that, I'd seen reference to this elsewhere and was curious to see it. Old Oak Common has been synonymous with 'top link' motive power for the Great Western main line for over a century, and with the HSTs since their introduction, so it's good to see an appropriate send off befitting of such a historic occasion. It was a nice touch for GWR to arrange for the last two power cars off the depot to be the appropriately named and liveried 43093, and Swallow liveried 43185 which was traditionally the Laira depot 'pet'. It's not often you see a proper headboard on an HST power car!

Blimey, hit me with an emotion surge or what. Sad to see the place go. It makes me even sadder that I never went to OOC during its open day last year or whenever it was.

This place should have gone out with a bang with a grand open day with every loco turning up in full glory. I wouldn't have missed it for the world.

Where are the 800's getting maintained then?

Wow, is the singer a GWR employee? She's really good, great voice!

At the London end of the route, North Pole depot, the former Eurostar facility across the other side of the GWML from Old Oak Common. There's also a large purpose built maintenance depot at Stoke Gifford, just outside of Bristol Parkway.

and at Swansea Maliphant
Yes, as well as Penzance Long Rock for stabling and light maintenance, but I was omitting the smaller facilities for brevity. I think that Plymouth Laira will also continue to have a role in overnight stabling, though I'm aware that it loses its engineering and heavy maintenance roles when the HSTs go.

Sorry, I thought you were specifically pointing out the Hitachi sites (rather than GWR-controlled out bases).

Good point on the difference there - I honestly hadn't made the connection in the variation in management between Hitachi/GWR at different sites. Fair play on mentioning Swansea Maliphant for completeness.

That's what they did at the last open day. From what I remember most OOC Top Link kit from Kings onwards were there.
