Is it poor etiquette to join this late and backdate (based on my commute)?

No. I started off in January and then got to busy to sit and work it all out (which I will be doing later) so I have about 6 months worth to backdate.

What spreadsheets? If you want to be included in the league then you need to fill out the box on your profile...

Might have been another post on the forum, but people were filling spreadsheets out with their journeys and such.

Just updated the electronic records and have a nice looking 35,427 which is better than I expected as I lost about 2 months worth of moves. And considering I have been off work for going on 10 weeks due to an injury so no commuting in that time i think it is going rather well and on track for my 50K goal.

I've just totted up my mileage for 2018.... 20,749 miles.

Summary.
it was my first year with my Senior card.
2 x 1 week All Line Rovers.
1 x 2 week All Line Rover.
Various regional rovers : 4 Devon day Rangers, 2 East Anglia, I freedom of Scotland and 2 West Midlands Day Rangers
Numerous travel cards. (London area)
3 Charter trains.

I know I'll never surpass that mileage again.

Just over 35,000 for me , and my first year recording on RailMiles. I definitely wont surpass that again as I've cut a 100 mile round commute five days a week on a train to a 14 mile a day commute 6 days a week. Regardless, an amazing year and my first being properly interested in this hobby

12781 miles in total, I think I’m going to blame it being quite low on getting a part time job which takes up most of my time when I’m not studying.

What's it called? It's called Cumbernauld
I have ended 2018 on 14340 miles, which is significantly down when compared with the 27005 I did in 2017 (although 5660 of those miles were extraneous variables such as the Midland Meander railtour and some free of charge Off Peak Day Returns that were part of a Scotrail promotion).

Although I had kept my target of 20000 miles the same as the previous couple of years, I would have been happy to have settled with a 10% variance either direction (22000 and 18000 respectively), but the inclement weather at the start of 2018 meant that I did not do anything in January or February, hence how I ended 2018 lower than expected. Rather surprisingly, December was the only month where my mileage increased compared with 2017, as this was due to me doing a couple of runs to and from Reading and more than that to Orpington at the beginning of December, plus on the way to my mum's on the 24th, I deviated for a mini bash to Llanwrtwd Wells.

I finish the year on a count of 13563, up 47% on 2017. The year got off to a good start, visiting Manchester, Edinburgh and York in January, before settling down over my A levels and reopening in the summer with a couple of trips to southern and Great Western and three "family & friends" tickets. The onset of university and health issues in October led to a real slow-down of mileage; however I still managed the SouthEastern "Super Saturday", A West Mids day ranger and an afternoon to Manchester (never again).

All in all, A good year with poor sectors in Q2 and Q4.

I'm no longer commuting by train however, so 15k for 2019 could be a tad ambitious.

Been busy doing a lot of catching up over the last few days but still haven't quite worked everything out
There are only a few long journeys to work out now so I'll concentrate on them and stop stewing my brain over some rather complicated Hungarian narrow gauge and tram distances.

Having finsihed the Admin for 2018 I have fallen short of my 50K target and finished on 45830 miles. Not really helped by being off work for 3 months so no commute there. 2019 is likely to fall well short due to no longer commuting.

I will have to declare at 60613; still have quite a lot of silly bits and pieces to work out but nothing major. Won't have time to finish the job in the short term due to starting to amass this this year's haul though, TBH, I'll be rather surprised if I beat 2018s total!

Just out of curiosity @33056 would you care to share your spreadsheet for 2018? I'd love to see how you achieved it!

Not sure how to do that as its the best part of 3,000 lines long! But here is a brief-ish synopsis:
January 4,744.97 (decimal) miles (started the year in Budapest and includes travel in Hungary, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Austria and Switzerland followed by a railtour in the UK then back to Germany)
February 5,737.42 miles (Germany, Czech Republic / Slovakia, back into Germany, then to Switzerland (just to fly home!), trip to Scotland (by rail) then to Poland)
March 4,947.60 (Poland, trip by rail to Preston for a railtour, couple of days "bashing" in the UK then two more railtours)
April 5,096.30 (A number of days out in the UK, including one railtour, then Finland for nine days five of which were on a tour)
May 7,251.69 (Hungary, then to Germany for a railtour back into Hungary 8-), back to Germany, then Slovenia via Austria, back to Hungary for another tour then Croatia, back to Germany, then to Switzerland to fly home (was meant to have been another tour there but didn't run))
June 2,689.04 (not so many miles due to travelling by road to numerous preserved / narrow gauge lines and a week in Hungary on narrow gauge lines so no mileage moves there plus I haven't worked all of them out yet)
July 6,775.06 (Slovakia then to Sweden by train via Czech Republic, Germany and Denmark, then beyond the Arctic Circle - a long way!)
August 4,697.92 (couple of weeks in the Czech Republic on a ticket costing less than £50, then a couple of railtours in the UK)
September 6,962.95 (Germany, Switzerland, Czech Republic, GBRf 4 day tour then to Bulgaria)
October 5,187.09 (Bulgaria then circular trip through the Balkans, then another trip to Scotland)
November 2,419.32 (Various stuff in the UK, sometimes by train, sometimes by road)
December 4,122.46 (Several railtours in the UK; would have accrued even more mileage as intended to go to Germany but hotels were a stupid price!)
Things to note;
All trips abroad were by air from the UK but once over there, all travel was by rail with a very small amount of road travel.
I never fly within the UK (unless to Ireland) and do very little by road (total car mileage for the year was somewhat less than 6,000 miles)

Can I ask what you use to work out mileages in Germany? I've got a number of journeys there and I've struggled to find the information!

Ahh you're doing the continent! Makes sense for you to get more miles there to be honest...
