True, but I physically don't fit in Northern's 150s and I can't sit straight on Thameslink 700s due to the seat pitch, so I don't think I'm short in that department either. I just never noticed it on 159s. The legroom isn't great, but it was enough for me and the rest of the seat I found very comfortable.

With 159s (similar to the FISA LEAN seats that Abellio are using) there's also the position of the supports at the sides. If your legs are quite bulky like mine are you won't be able to put your knees in the recess, and so lose an extra 1.5-2" of legroom. If you have skinny legs they will fit there so you get more space.

Also with the 159s I find the standard table seats there's not much room between the table edge and seat base, makes it harder to get in and out of, especially window-side.

I noticed some TOCs have refurbished their 158 fleet with the seats used on the 444, would that not have made more sense?

I would be happy if they had! Whilst it is nice the refurbished units have new seat pads they are so thick and firm that because of my height I have no head/neck support.

Er, no they haven’t. You’re getting it confused with the IC grammer seats such as on GWR HSTs. These seats feature of Scotrail, TFW and EMT 158s.

Have they? I've seen the superior Grammer IC3000 (EMT, ATW and ScotRail Inverness units) but not the cheaper (but still better than any ironing board) E3000, which I've only ever seen on Desiros and SWT 455 refurbs.

I'd be happy to see that seat in more places, though. I really quite like it.

I have a massive bruise on my left leg, which I was confused as to how it occurred, but realised it was caused by trying to stand up in a window seat on an EMT Class 158 (not even the original tables or seats!) to chuck my bag onto the overhead without moving out into the aisle...

I noticed this when SWT started the refresh programme. Doubtless in time the cushions will soften and sink.

The Desiro seats are a reasonable compromise of comfort and legroom. Just at the limit of firmness comfort wise.
Why TOCs feel the need for firmer, thinner seats I don't know. Doubt they can really gain much more space from doing so

Personally I'm rather disappointed to hear that the original BR Seats will remain in the 159 fleet. I was rather hoping, given all the talk from SWT about increasing capacity within their DMU fleet, that a layout and interior similar to ScotRails Inverness Set 158s could have been adopted preferably complete with Grammer IC3000. The 159/1s are abysmal for luggage, and I do find the layout a little cramped. Especially in the GWR Green 158s where they have reduced the gap between seats ever closer than before.

I wonder if this means that the 159s will not receive plug sockets either?

Which seat is getting fitted to the Northern fully refurbished 158s (158855 I think is one)?

It would just be nice to see a better renovation rather than just new seat covers and carpet. What should happen is for there to be, New toliets, cladding, and maybe the colour info screens on the 159 and 159's.

Also I would prefer the front to be fully yellow like on (GWR) with there logo on the door. The semi black front is a bit stagecoach.

I hate the zero consistentcy and the 'semi referbishment' on the 450's

The semi refurbishment was an interim scheme to get much of the work done while there were delays with the rest of the work. All such units will receive the full refurb.

Just slightly narrower I think. But part of the same range.

The ones in the 444s are identical to those in the 350/1, /3 and /4 (in Standard).
And no armrests in the 450 standard class, of course, and no spacers between the seats, which is why the 450s can get the 2+3 seating.

When the part refurbished 450s started appearing I think it was generally assumed that the full refurbishment would be much more comprehensive, but in reality it has not turned out the way. The end product is pretty dissapointing imo.

Yes, I agree. However, don't forget the updated PIS displays and infotainment are yet to come

450091 is done. It's got the blue dots relocated over the new 1st Class sections.

I know this question isn't really related to this thread, but on Realtime Trains/OpenTrainTimes, each train has a code for e.g. 2W32. And some extremely clever people are able to tell what type of train it is from the code for e.g. a class 444. How do they do that?
