Does this indicate the rumoured removal of the yellow warning panel?.

Who knows. I understand it all requires approval after the lights have been tested in varying environments.

People keep going on about moving the toilet and 1st class, but doing so would be complicated and would mean the refurbishment of each unit would take weeks or months, rather than days. All so that there isn't the occasional (and in my experience it is only occasional) standard-class passenger walking through. Not worth the trouble, the existing set-up is the best compromise.

You would also need to do the following if you moved first class:

Rewire the relevant vehicles
Install new / additional circuit breakers

185128 is the first unit fitted with the new cab interface to allow the PIS screens to display the route and times etc. It’s out in traffic today, scheduled to work the 0545 Piccadilly to Leeds.

Does this new interface remain under control of the Driver only (like the existing interface on 185's) or will Guards be able to use it?

The brief says when the drivers key is in the desk, so same as the other PIS system. Although a limited menu of auto announcements is available from the rear cab at the moment, it doesn’t say that these can be selected either in the leading or trailing cabs.

I went on it today from LDS to MAN on the 06:53 and can confirm the text was much more readable! Was interesting at Stalybridge and other major stations where it displayed taxi numbers.

Only 1 class 185 remaining with the old interior now. Should be refurbished by the end of next week.

185110 is working the 18:47 Man Picc to Hull today - it had the smell of a newly refurbished interior, with the screens. Seems like it has just reentered service following the refurb. Last week it was stated that '109 was still in the old interior, so it might be that one.

There are 2 of the 10x series in refurbishment at the moment, plus one more still remaining which is the last one.

Don't suppose anyone has a better source than this for the completion of the refurbishment?

https://www.tpexpress.co.uk/media-c...rs-can-now-watch-films-and-tv-series-for-free

The launch follows the refurbishment of TPE’s entire Class 185 fleet, where upgrades include new seats throughout, leather seats in first class, standard plug and USB sockets at every pair of seats in standard and first class, as well as bigger tables to allow more space for laptops and other devices.

The interior refit (paper over the cracks and bodge up the paint job) is complete, however fitment of the screens (which block the TMs view at the GOP and stops seat reservation labels being put in) and the catering cupboards (with fridge hinges that jam leaving parts sticking out at eye/bonce level and electrics that don't work) are still in progress. However with several 350s short and 185s still on loan to Northern (late Bolton electrification and 769 introduction) work seems to have slipped into the back burner for now.

But we are getting new trains....

Bump .

185143 (I'm 99% sure) has been seen tonight with the new twin (blinding) headlights. A start has been made on converting the 185 headlights at last.

Does this mean that they will be vinyled with black fronts to bring them into line with the Nova fleet?

I thought the black front could only be applied to new builds, even if current stock had suitable headlights?
Not necessarily - for existing stock, a suitable derogation and safety case has to be obtained. One reason why all of Greater Anglia's new stock is yellow-fronted is the high number of level crossings (as they believe non-yellow-fronted trains could pose more of a safety risk on rural lines).

I don't see why. Surely any train which receives the appropriate certification can have a front in some colour other than yellow? It's just that new trains are getting this from the off because they need it anyway.

Correct. The LNR 350s will be getting non-yellow fronts once the lighting is upgraded. Though I must admit it's rather a lot of money to spend on something purely cosmetic.

I’ve just spent a couple of days in 185-land and made 3 journeys on them. Whilst I think the refurb looks very classy I really don’t understand why they’ve changed the information screens to TVs. They’re too small, poorly situated so they can’t be seen from much of the carriage and the scrolling system means you have to stare at it for ages before you get the information you’re looking for. Also they’ve turned the old (better!) LED screens off but not removed them which looks a bit rubbish. Seems an odd move; would have been better and cheaper to leave it as it was IMO!

The screens on the roof in the middle of each coach (if those are the ones you are referring to) still work, and display the same text as the automated announcements whenever these are made. So while they won't scroll the calling pattern continuously throughout the journey, calling pattern will still be displayed on these after every stop (along with whatever else the automated announcement says before/at/after every stop).

Calling pattern on the TV screens comes round very frequently in my experience so you shouldn't have to wait for long for it to come back round.

Do they?! Not on the units I travelled on - must have been broken I suppose. Anyway I stand corrected! As you were....

The overhead displays have been off a few times in the last week or so - usually coinciding with the side displays (not sure about the front one) showing Preinst abort or something similar. I assumed there's been some update that hasn't worked properly.

Ah that makes sense. I was beginning to think I was losing my marbles!

Indeed  All of the units I've worked today have scrolled the calling pattern when announced, so it seems likely there was a PIS fault or similar.

Yes this would be a PIS fault. I think the trains with the new PIS controls installed in the cabs have had an update as the TVs now display more (and different) content to before and also apologise for late running (and give reasons why!).
