Hi All, I've just returned from a great trip to Wroclaw and Katowice. Whilst in Wroclaw, I visited the miniature railway and world of Kolejkowo (which is pretty good). It seems to be housed in an old abandoned railway station building.

I ventured around after visiting the attraction to find old platforms, a couple of carriages - and a fair few street drinkers, so didn't hang around. I've Google searched to read more about the abandoned station, but all the links seem to be to the miniature attraction, does anyone know any more about this place?

Sure, you can find more information here - https://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wrocław_Świebodzki - the name is Dworzec Świebodzki in Polish.

In short, it was abandoned in 1991 after being deemed surplus to requirements. A lot of local train traffic was cut back at that time, and it was allowed to fall effectively into disuse. It's home to one of Europe's largest street markets on Sundays, and you can walk for over 1km amongst people selling...everything. It's only in recent years that it developed into what is there today, and Kolejkowo is responsible for most of the success.

Anyway, it's a long running saga in this city. PKP (Polish State Railways) want to redevelop the site, but because the real estate is worth a small fortune, they can't get anything done as everyone wants a piece of the action. They have no interest in reopening the line, as they prefer to have trains running through rather than terminating. The proposals are endless, but the most common one is that it could be used as a terminal station for trains to Jelenia Góra / Legnica and other destinations west of the city.

One other proposal is that it could be used as the terminal station for trains serving the suburbs and outlying cities to the west, on the format of a typical Germanic S-Bahn.

Personally, I don't think it will be reopened.

Thanks so much for the information, just Googled it. In all honesty, it doesn't seem to be necessary, Glowny is very good and well used, and the trams are continuous.

In May 1992 it was still intact and as such was used to lay on a display and a parade of steam ,diesel and electric locos as part of the celebrations to markthe 150th Anniversary of the first railway to open in what is now Polish territory..
Two lines of static locomotives along with coaches were on display over two days.( Friday/Saturday)
Also on the Friday participants of the official party attended a buffet in the waiting room.
On the Saturday morning a parade of live steam locos took place for which grand stands were built.
A YouTube video exists ( Parada na Swiebodzkim(PL))
I was there as one of a party organised by Vic Allen and travelled on the official special on the Friday fromWroclaw Glowny to Olawa hauled outward by Ok1- 359,aformer Prussian P8 4-6-0 based at that time at Wolsztyn It was also in the parade on the Saturday morning as well as examples of classes Ol49,Pt47 ,Tkt 48 ,Okz 32 and Ty2/3/42/51 and52!!!
In the static line up was a UNRRA Liberation 2-8-0 built at Vulcan Foundry and a USA S160 2-8-0 along with an ex DR class 64 2-6-2t amongst others.
