My ticket is totally valid but it will not work the barriers and I don't want a discussion if possible.

In my experience they tend to use either the gated platforms 8-11 or the high numbered ungated platforms 12-18. I wouldn't rely on it arriving at the latter. If your ticket is totally valid, why would there be any need for a discussion?

Surely if your ticket is valid and won't work the barriers you just tell the gateline staff and they'll let you through? I don't see what the problem is or what discussion it is that you don't want?

The ticket is totally valid and the correct fare paid. Accepted on board too always without question. I have just had it questioned a couple of times at Euston when it has not worked the barrier and I would prefer not to do that. Some people assume that something must be up because it doesn't work the barrier.

Perhaps you have not encountered the unique customer service skills of the Euston gateline staff?

VT do not under any circumstances check tickets for LNR services (and don't even check VT services on arrival). The LNR barrier staff on platforms 8-11 do not have the same issues and are generally quite reasonable. LNR services on other platforms do not routinely have any barrier checks unless a specific (and occasional) revenue protection operation is in progress, and if it is it's their RPIs who are not particularly prosecution-happy and will issue PFs for most "invalid ticket" issues.

I am not referring to the OP when I say this, but one can quite understand why somebody on the autistic spectrum or who suffers from social anxiety may wish to avoid debates around validity in order to exit a station.

Yes that is a very valid point, of course it shouldn't be like that but hey ho!

but how do you expect to manage in life if you cant deal with someone asking why your ticket doesn't work the barrier? You have to develop coping strategies and train yourself to use them. Not easy but essential.

of course they do. That is their job. Avoid the situation by approaching a person on the gateline and explaining politely and calmly that the ticket doesn't work the barrier. You don't need a long discussion about ticketing rules minutiae. Just explain why it doesn't work. It happen to me often if I buy on the Marston Vale line.

Don't allow something simple to derail your day out. Just keep calm and relaxed.

And to get back to the central point: The Crewe - Euston London Mildand services tend to come into an ungated platform at Euston. Tend to. Not certain to.

MON-FRI : 2Y00/1U22/1U42
SAT: 1U16/1U20/1U38/1U40/2N44
On Sunday all arrive in 8-11 except for 1U28/1U34/1//U38/1U40

I have and didn't have any problems although maybe I was lucky? I did have problems at Marylebone but that's another subject.

These checks would not be made through gates.

Have you asked what the gate code means and if getting a replacement would solve your issues.

People should be expected to develop strategies sufficient to allow them to talk to staff if their ticket doesn't work. Not to have to enter into debates about a valid ticket.
