I will be going to Sheffield in February and will be using the Tram Train between Parkgate and Cathedral then travelling around the Tram network returning to Rotherham later
Is there a ticket which will allow unlimited travel on the Tram and Tram Train all day which can be bought on the day? (I know there is a Tram only day ticket but am not sure weather it is valid on the Tram Train)

If you are travelling from outside of South Yorkshire a Sheffield PlusBus ticket will cover the entire tram network, with buses included as a bonus!

Yes, if travelling by train from outside S Yorks the Plusbus @ £4 (£2.65 for Railcard holders) is the cheapest option. You can buy this with your rail ticket or (in theory, at least) at Sheffield station on production of the rail ticket.

Otherwise get the Tram Only Dayrider @ £4.20 which can be bought on board the TramTrain. If the "promotional period" has ended by the time you want to travel (and I have seen no publicity to suggest that might be the case) I see no point in buying the suggested SY Connect+ @ £8.50 if you are only using the TramTrain & Tram as the Stagecoach Day Explorer ticket @ £6.50 would cover you.

Thanks for the replies I will probably get the Tram Only dayrider as I have now looked it up and the promotional period runs until April

Even after the promotional period, I'd be highly surprised if one needed a Connect or even a Stagecoach explorer. Bear in mind - although it is technically something more than just a tram, and physically, it runs on the Railway and it is labelled "TramTrain" in publicity - it is wholly operated by and as part of the Tram system (and nothing else) at least as far as ticketing is concerned. Hence, I suspect it far more likely there will still be tram-only passes; the only change I forsee (if any) is the network being split into two zones for Sheffield (up and including Meadowhall) and Rotherham (up to and including Meadowhall) with tickets on offer for one, t'other, or both.
