I heard this morning of a bus driver that Blackpool Transport are going electric circa 2021. Apparently the buses are coming from china, I don't know the make or model. The Rigby Rd tramsheds are apparently going to be knocked down to make charging points.

I suspect this is "Canteen Gossip" and highly unlikely given Blackpool Transport's recent investment in considerable numbers of new (diesel) buses.

Yet they've managed to make some RHD electric buses for Nottingham (and London of the top of my head)

Yes they have - I thought that the OP was saying second hand electric buses were coming from China  Interestingly, the article you linked suggests that any new BYD electric buses over here would be Enviro 200 EVs.
A BYD spokesman confirmed that these are likely to be the last BYD buses with Chinese built bodies supplied in the UK as future ones will be built in conjunction with ADL.

I believe they do now work in partnership with ADL, with the electric enviro 200 being BDL kit with an ADL body IIRC

While all buses in this country will eventually go electric, in terms of air pollution I'd imagine Blackpool with its bracing breeze blowing off the sea is one of the last places that needs electric buses to solve air pollution issues!

Another way of reading this is that, by 2021, Blackpool are going to have an electric bus and it'll be charged somewhere in the Rigby Road tramsheds which already has a lot of the requirements for that kind of thing.

The thread title seems a tad misleading.

As others have said, they are almost just finishing off an entire fleet replacement of diesel buses.

More likely they are getting one electric bus.

Perhaps they'll run those electric buses on a fixed track, and have a competition to find a suitable name for such vehicles....

Would make more sense to expand the tram wiring and make it suitable for trolley buses..........how difficult would it be to convert the trams to an overhead return rather than through the track?

I've since heard it of another source. Who happens to be an enthusiast. It has also been in the local paper.

OK there may be some mileage in this after all. Blackpool Transport is considering ordering electric buses from 2021, and moving to a new depot at a new location. But until they make any actual decisions, considering is all they are doing!

London has a number of BYD/ADL Enviro200 electric single-deckers already in operation, and the first all-electric double-deckers are due to enter service during the Summer; 37 BYD/ADL Enviro400 City are coming for route 43, and 31 Optare Metrodeckers for route 134.

Stagecoach have also taken delivery of at least 10 BYD/ADL electric single deckers recently too if I remember correctly for Guildford

I'm sure Blackpool are considering electric buses, as will just about all buyers of new buses, but as I've said I can't see the great urgency for them in Blackpool, where I imagine air quality is pretty good

Given that Blackpool and the Fylde are among the flattest parts of the country, it would actually be quite logical to use battery vehicles.

Answering my own post, I remember now where I had read this. There was an item on the Oxford & Chilterns Bus Page website, which linked to this article on the TramTalk blog: www.tramtalk.co.uk/single-post/2019/01/17/Blackpool-Local-Plan-Published
