Hi there Diesel08,

EMT recruit their Mainline drivers directly from their internal pool of Depot Drivers. EMT will advertise internally for Mainline Driver positions, which are open exclusively to Depot Drivers.
Successful applicants then attend a conversion course where they learn high-speed handling and routes for their new role.

Depot Drivers don’t have to go for these Mainline positions, and there are drivers who are happy to stay in their roles as Depot Drivers, but generally, Depot Drivers will move to the Mainline after an average of about 18 months of Depot Driver work, depending on driver recruitment needs. :)

Yeah I did my DMI last week and Group Assessment what seems like an age ago! It seems like a lifetime ago that the application form was filled in Hopefully it will all be worth it in the end!

Congratulations! Guess I'll be seeing you on the 30th then.

Just completed the online assessment, can't say I particularly enjoyed that. Just managed to complete all the verbal reasoning questions and managed 16 out of the 18 numerical reasoning ones in the allocated times, maths isn't my strong point so how I've done I don't know :'(

I did mine today and had a similar experience as you. Thought the personality questions were dragged out abit and the same/ similar questions kind of repeated. All done though so time to forget about them and look forwards.

Hey everyone!

I managed to print off the practice material ahead of the stage 2 assessments but I just want to check it's still the same material that is being given out nowadays. It's what was sent to me ahead of my stage 1 assessments, but they were a year ago so I just want to make sure what I have is still current.

It's "RSSB Train Driver Assessment 2013-2014" .

Is that what everyone else has? I'm not expecting anything to have changed over the past year but I ought to be sure of that!

The practice material that was sent out later in 2018 had 2016-2017 on the front, just have a look at yours as up to page 40 was stage 1 practice and then from page 41 onwards was the computerised tests, perception test, 2 hand co-ordination, situational judgement, multi modal interview info, wct written communication test. Just check Amanda that you have those same things from page 40 onwards and I would've thought its probably the same?

Thanks, López. I think I'll drop Marie an e-mail though to be on the safe side. I can't imagine much will have changed, this is the railway industry after all... ;)

Hi there Hasan Shah,

If your Stage 1 is at the Academy in Derby, parking is available out the front. If it’s full, then there is a Pay & Display car park next door and another at the station, which is a five minute walk away. (If even that, you can hear the station announcements from the academy )

If you do decide to come by train you will need the Pride Park exit.

Hi all, ongoing with the process which seems to be going very slowly. I was told last year around Nov 2018 that due to demand i wouldnt get a date for stage 1 assessment until sometime in New Year.
On Friday the 18th of Jan 2019 i finally received practice materials via e mail from the Talent Team but i still have not been given a date for the assessment as of yet.
Anyone in the same position ???? Any tips or ideas when next round of assessments will be ????
Regards......

Hello, if you are in any doubt, e-mail Marie Perrygrove. When I was at the group assessments stage I overheard someone say they had received the e-mail from Talent Central before they'd received anything else, so they'd sent an e-mail in and then the one with the details of the assessments they were due to attend arrived afterwards. I would definitely send an e-mail just to be on the safe side.

In my news, I got a reply from Marie about the practice materials and now have the correct version which is dated the same as yours, López. Just need to print it out now. Again! :p

That's good news, at least you now know you definitely have the up to date material, good luck

Anyone waiting for stage 1 test details; I have received an email today which explains feb dates are now full and i will be tested if there any cancellations or failing that on new dates likely to be March.

Good luck to all of those progressing through the later stages of the recruitment.

1pm for me Dave91131, how’s the practice going?

Good so far. Having a go at the various tasks regularly but not glued to them every spare minute of every day.

And correction - 19th Feb is the date I'm at Derby, not the 18th.
