I still don't understand why they are building a depot at Scarborough. Surely they could use York?
The first and last train can’t get from and to York as the signal box will be closed, and York will be full with the new trains. York is also being extended

To get a train between York & Scarborough you would need Strensall, Barton Hill,Kirkham Abbey,Malton,Weaverthorpe and Seamer all open, as signal box opening times I doubt can be extended any longer it would mean 24 hour cover.
Even when the depot opens for fuelling etc. it looks like Seamer might have to end up as 24 hour operation to be able to shunt between depot and station ( just like at Hull between Pargon Station and Botanic Gardens Depot which is 24 hour operation).
About 14 crossings would need there details up-dateing inside the phones to contact the signal box that it was now a 24 hour railway.
I still don't understand why they are building a depot at Scarborough. Surely they could use York?

Are there any local news articles regarding the siding reopening?

The ground-breaking ceremony for the new site happened today.

Lots of management types in Scarborough earlier today posing with a very clean and shiny shovel.

Over a month now since the ground-breaking ceremony mentioned in the last post and from what I've seen when I've been past not a lot happening-anyone got any updates/news? And any news on the 68s starting on the Scarborough line? (apologies if that last query is a matter for a different thread)

Thanks for those replies and photos...I hadn't seen the work going on-was looking from the Seamer Rd side each time I've passed in car

...having done a little exploring yesterday I realise now that my previous post was a little foolish!! Took these photos from Londesborough Rd station site and then opposite the old Falsegrave tunnel entrance. Quite a lot of digging up...not least the old platform 1 of Londesborough Rd-you can see most of the platform face taken off. Made me think they were making space for the revised track arrangements in view of the proximity of the main running lines mentioned in previous posts.20181026_120431.jpg Screenshot_20181027-144425.jpg Screenshot_20181027-144520.jpg Screenshot_20181027-144909.jpg

Interesting pictures Swedish Keith, it is a shame that Falsgrave Tunnel and Gallows Close are long gone. They would have been put to good use as a new stabling yard for the new trains!

I leave Scarborough on the 0738 each weekday and have seen lots of activity over the last few weeks - when it's light enough I'll try and get some more photos of the work.

Tracklaying seems to be complete, with new rails and seepers in place and ballasted all the way up to the depot site. Construction of the depot is still in the early stages, but there were plenty of chaps and plant working away on Friday morning.

Not the best of photos but they are now laying sleepers near to what I believe is underbridge 22 at the entrance to site of the new depot.

You might be able to spot the fuel tanks in the left hand picture and of course that’s the access platform for the stabled train appearing in both pictures. I think a small shed is part of the depot plans, which I couldn’t see from my viewpoint.

Do you by any chance know if there are any plans to modify the station throat area in conjunction with these plans. I would expect that the direct access only to Platform 1 will limit operational flexibility, whereas installing an additional crossover from the carriage sidings to the down main would allow access some of the other platforms - It looks like there would be room for it.

Best regards,
Chris.

I would be extremely surprised if there were any further modifications to the track layout in Scarborough after the major changes in 2010.

As only two Transpennine Express trains stable overnight in Scarborough there's really no need to change anything, The only complication that could arise is on the very rare occasion that there is a charter train needing to stable overnight but even that is manageable.
