Why did Google Maps drop Staines Town Hall in the river?

Because the marker is for a mooring point I do believe.

No sir. If you mouse over the marker, it definitely says Staines Town Hall

It is a mooring point called 'Staines Town Hall', which is next to the actual Staines Town Hall, see here (apologies for the white marker, blocking out how long it takes to get there from my house, a fact which I'd rather not put on here):

I did not know Google maps did that. Where/how would that appear? Wouldn't bother me anyway as Google in other contexts seems to think I live in various places, all of them at least 100 miles from where I really am, and I'm not inclined to correct it.

The council wants the town to be known as Staines-upon-Thames, I've read. Perhaps this is part of a PR exercise!

The actual pier is here, it is as @Clip says, it also happens at a few stations (though I can't find any examples at the moment)
