NR took some extra new offices in Reading last year. They downed tools on the fit out before Christmas. Nothing at all has happened since. They clearly aren’t in a rush ...

February's London underground in house magazine is advertising for people to take part as passengers during live testing. To train staff in how to perform tunnel evacuations etc. Etc. Last time they advertised this was may last year. When a December opening was still on the cards. So does this indicate that that they are at an equivalent stage to May last year?

This is currently anticipated to be later this year. I believe this notice has also gone out to London Overground and DLR, and is obviously being advertised in house at MTR Crossrail.

My understanding is once these trials start taking place the service can launch about 12 weeks after that as the trials don't begin until the core.stations are handed over to London Underground.

Station handover is rather different to service delivery, however. I believe there is a lot more work to do on getting the infrastructure to work than there is on finishing the stations (despite how unfinished they are). If the station work continued at the pace it was at before the announcement, they would probably all be done 6-9 months before the service is ready to operate.

Imagine the clamour if they opened that up to rail fans! :E

Will trains doing test runs in the Crossrail core appear in RTT / other open feeds?
They’ve been in RTT on and off for about 6 months, so potentially yes. We’ve had links posted in earlier threads last year. It’s just a case of finding the right locations, eg the separate Abbey Wood Crossrail station, which is a separate timing location of Abbey Wood (Crossrail) ABX. I see someone else has already posted a specimen RTT link.

Those tunnels are very well lit for are they going to be that we'll lit in service

My understanding is the trials with the volunteers require the infrastructure works to be in service ready because they will be running a dummy timetable as part of the trials.

Any guesses as to which two stations are shown? The resolution is too low for me to see the roundels. The sweeping right curve and then left curve sugests to me it's TCR and Farringdon, but I'm not sure.

Based on the brief duration between the stations and the curves (left going into the first station, then right into the second station) I think the stations shown are Farringdon and Liverpool Street.

This is corroborated by the (very blurry!) Liverpool Street roundel seen at the end of the video:

The 345s in the tunnel make some great motor noise, sounds very space age.

I only had a very brief chance to look at the video, but was that not ground rail noise I was hearing? I'll have to check again. The traction gear on 345s really isn't very noisy, certainly not compared to that on some past LU stock.

The noise around 0:55 as the train begins to move. Reminded me of the noise the Enterprise makes at impulse speed (as heard in the first 15 seconds of this video). Maybe that's just me!

I never knew that London Underground had plans to extend to Slough.

Is the Night Tube poster intended for passengers changing at Ealing Broadway onto the overnight Crossrail trains (assuming they run on Saturday and Sunday mornings)?

Being cynical, one can’t help but wonder if it’s to promote the Mayor of London, or more specifically Sadiq Khan.

It's just TfL being TfL. One size fits all, no matter how illogical or irrelevant it is to the people of Slough or wherever.

But TfL don’t own or operate Slough station - it’s GWR. Unless a handover is imminent? Seems very strange

No plans for TfL to take over the running of any more stations on the Western Arm. Slough, Maidenhead, Twyford and the branches therefrom remain GWR stations

I am someone that doesn't like being too cynical either but 100% I agree with you there. Find a TfL 'improvements' poster about anything that they're doing and it will start with the sentence 'This is part of the plan that the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, is doing to....'

You don’t actually have to operate at any particular station to put up advertisements or info. I don’t see the problem.

It is actually useful for people catching very late/early GWR services to know that they could change at Ealing Broadway/walk to Lancaster Gate from Paddington for services into Zone 1
However, I will accept there's probably only a handful of passengers who'd actually do that.

No it's for the central line. As far as I know no night crossrail services were proposed, even before the delay announcement

Are TfL paying GWR to display these adverts? (which I'd argue they are, rather than public information posters.)

I think all TOCs that serve a station get a certain amount of advertising space Free of Charge for information and other posters. I wonder if the agreements for the Elizabeth line serving Slough are in place as a result tfl have just stuck a poster up to use the space. Far better advertising the 81 bus or reminding customers that alcohol is illegal at certain stations on the gwml though.

I believe TfL make regular PA announcements of Tube status etc at Slough station and have done for a while. A great many people travel from Slough to London every day, so it's useful info.
