The line is called the up and down east Lancs as a part of the Calder valley line.

Copy pit is just an area near Portsmouth crossing and Holme tunnel where a pit used to be, with a sidings.

That is the name for the line southwards down the valley from Burnley Manchester Road down towards the Todmorden area, where the line bifurcates in both the lines to Hebden Bridge and to Todmorden
I know that. As a railway engineer I did several surveys and relaying jobs on that line.

I was questioning how a train from Salford Crescent to Bolton manages to use it!

If we are talking about that ECS move I mentioned upthread it doesn't go via Bolton, it was given as an example of the unusual ECS positioning moves when industrial action is taking place.

I see now. Two unusual moves have become interlaced in the thread.

The realtime trains link provided by PDG1949 does not go via Copy Pit.

Just wondering,
With electrification ticking along at a comfortable glacial pace, looking to be completed in time for May, does anyone know the types of units that will be running along the line?

319s almost certainly, schedules have gone in timed for 323, and TPE will be using 350s if their 397s aren't all in use by May.

390s no doubt at some time in the future too. Do we know if any progress has made on the M61 over bridge that was being held up by the highways agency?

I drove over it yesterday on the motorway and it appears to have had green pallasade fencing put up

Particularly when the WCML is diverted via Bolton during the blockade at Acton Grange - but these probably won't call, even at Bolton.

Given Virgins performance when Golborne Jn was closed for a week, they diverted their xx17 from Preston via Bolton, didn't even call at Piccadilly, next stop Stockport .but put all their xx58 London passengers on to the xx09 Transpennine service to change at Piccadilly for London.

Double voyagers were sailing through Piccadilly half empty (I saw with my own eyes) when the TPE services were absolutely rammed, people were being left behind at Horwich and Bolton .

I hope train planners have come up with a better plan this time .

Llama, your Bonus Point is in the post.

I intend to cover 5Z91 through Clifton c01:05 then 5Z92 through Kearsley c01:55. If I'm awake enough I'll stay for 5Z93 through Farnworth then 5Z94 through Moses Gate.

If anyone else is desperate to go to any of these locations at these times please post so, and I'll move elsewhere. I'm not being antisocial, but on such occasions the jam is best spread thinly.

Graham, please may I enlist you as my eSpotter once again?

Same runnings Friday early am too. Seems to be a similar schedule to the cancelled ones from last month.
(On RTT, you can select ''non-passenger services" only and deselect 'WTT' and 'VAR' to produce a easier to read schedule of only the test runs)

Yes that's right, you will be able to get on an electric train at Bolton from Monday.

We have been told that half of the Man Vic- Buckshaw Parkway turnbacks, as well as about one in three of the Man Picc-Blackpool North and Man Airport-Preston services are booked to be 319s.

I didn't realise the approvals were in place?
I presume the testing at the end of the month is for 100mph and a 75mph Temporary Speed Restriction will be in place for electric traction?
Seems all the stars are aligning at Northern HQ, with the return of full Saturday services from the 16th too.
