Clemson was home of William (the fridge) Perry; winner of the Superbowl in the 80's with Chicago Bears.

It was the Clemson University football team, winners of the National College Football Championship. It's traditional for winners of national competitions to be invited to the White House for a photo op with the President.

However, 45 couldn't even manage this without managing to put his his foot in it:

I haven't laughed so hard at a politician in ages. This was nothing sort of farcical, especially considering Trump has a hotel not too far away that could easily have catered in the absence of the White House staff. Satirical publications & shows, comedians and now even his political opponents have got so much material just off this gaff. The best bit was that the entire time he was in the room, Trump kept his coat on giving the impression that he wasn't hanging around & was off to lunch somewhere else.

That'd solve a great many problems in one fell swoop if it were to actually happen.
I just got sent a better one: (for those who can't see the picture, Trump inside doorless, windowless enclosure being built by a trainee or someone like that.)

Word is (fingers crossed) that DT will declare an emergency about the funding of the Wall.

It makes a mockery of the concept of a national emergency - the mere fact that he's been debating whether to declare it for nearly a month means it isn't an emergency!

Hopefully doing something like this will be the final nail in the coffin for his presidency as there will have to be legal challenges to this latest moment of stupid, and this is the country we want to have closer ties to?
Maybe trump needs remininding that he is not running North Korea and as such can't do what he pleases.

Mostly Glasgow-ish. Mostly.

In any other time with any other president this would be a nail in the coffin. Right now, with this one... nope. Normality and common sense have gone out the window.

Unfortunately I can't argue with that, if only it didn't parallel our struggles with Theresa May and Brexit. I just hope someone someway can get rid of him.

Politician keeps election pledge, and everyone is outraged.

politician uses lies and Russia to get elected, despite more people voting for his opponent and people wonder why they don't want him to do what he promised, primarily as surprisingly there are a lot of people smarter than a trump supporters.

Ah, Russia.

Trump will win a second term so there's going to be many more years of the complaining.

Perhaps so.

Trump and Brexit are what happen when people throw abuse and insults at people, instead of sitting down to have a civilised discussion and debate. Jonathan Pie's video of how Trump won nails it for me.

Trump and Brexit are what happen when people reject being told their concerns are meaningless by the incumbent establishment.

Absolutely agree on this point however. But what has happened since has been even worse with both sides polarising and flying towards the left and right and refusing to engage at all.

A good point.

What we are seeing is that the extremists who were on the fringes of politics are now taking over and demanding adherence; In the USA you have Antifa and Social Justice Warriors on the left and Pro Trumpers and the alt-right/Pepe fans on the right.

Last weekend, there were clashes in a number of UK towns and cities between the Yellow Jacket movements and Hope Not Hate.

I just hope that people come back to the centre and we can sort matters out civilly without all the nastiness.

The money for the wall comes partly from the Pentagon. So just redistribution of money.

True, it's a redistribution of money, but it was always going to be - declaring a national emergency doesn't make any new money available.

I'm not opposed to reducing DoD spending given that the US spends more on defense that the next nine highest spenders combined, but at the end of the day taking money from those who defend the country from actual threats to defend against made-up threats is hardly good statesmanship.
