A very Happy New Year to everyone, hope all your dreams and aspirations come to fruition!

May the MML be electrified, May metal fatigue be discovered on all 153's neccessitating immediate scrapping, May Wales win the Six Nations, may Leicester City win the FA cup.............. Ok, that last one may be asking TOO much! ;)

...Are ye sure? That would almost certainly mean an end to HST services along that route!

Personally, my wish for that (And for the Chiltern line from Marylebone as well) would be for the APT-E to be revived - Complete with it's original gas turbine'd power cars - And put into active service on both lines! 8)

Could ye imagine the sheer thrill (And brown trousers-ness!) of passing through the High Wycombe section at 165mph?:D<D

Wires up or not EMT want rid of them by 2015. If the wires went up however, they may just decide to hang on to them until project completion, so it may actually keep them in service longer!

EMT want rid of the HSTs? And there was me thinking that South West Trains *ahem* East Midlands Trains were one of the few good companies out there...

Interesting that it's only now - When the HST is so close to celebrating it's 40th birthday - That knitting is planned for the WoE and MML lines!
Not only is that concrete proof that the HST managed to bear the "temporary" role on it's shoulders so well, but it also proves that some of British Railway's "charms" (I.E: Electrification running 35 years behind schedule!) are still with us even twenty years after privatisation!;)<D

Well happy new year everyone! Belated or not! As possibly the first member to usher in the new year I can say it was totally awesome, the 13 hour coach ride to Sydney was well worth it!

And at the stroke of Midnight (1pm your time), Sydney's night sky is lit up with an explosion of colour as thousands of fireworks explode over Sydney ushering in the new year and the new decade! G'day 2010!

And then when the fireworks are all over, everyone goes home, or should I say the millions that showed up go home. Note that almost all of Sydney's main City streets were opened up for people to get out, so they were all as crowded as this one.

And with a crowd that big, the rubbish quickly mounts up! Never, before had I seen so much rubbish after an New years Party!

Then, when its all over and the crowds have gone home to sleep in the new year, the first day of 2010 shines upon Sydney, despite it being very overcast.

I remember watching it from our hotel back in 2001, and seeing the matching smaller displays around the city as well, pity my photo's didn't come out very well. But it's been a very spectacular show both times I've seen it :D

Plus my cousin watching it on tv rather than out the window

If it's any consolation i love my HST work, limited as it is for the time being to Summer Skegg's and Lincoln Christmas market days. It was a real pleasure coming to work to drive them. I think i'll ask Mr Shoveller nicely if we can have a little London work! :D

Ye are one lucky being, mate! I like my HSTs just as much as many other enthusiasts (Even though I'd still rate the APT over it in terms of speed, intensity and innovation) but - Like quite a few of us, I should imagine - I'd Kill just to get any driving job on the railway...Even if I had to put up with an SWT role where I'm signed for Dessies only!

Gods...What must it feel like to have the sheer unfettered power of two Valentas or VP185's at thy fingertips? <D

Ye spent thirteen hours taking a Greyhound into Sydney? Don't CountryLink (Or another TOC) run a much faster XPT service there from Melbourne? :?:

Either way though, glad to see that ye had an awesome New Year...Ye Australians certainly know how to throw a party! :D8)<D

It was actually Firefly that I traveled with. The XPT isn't much quicker and it was all booked out on the dates I travelled.

Yeah, spending a New Years in Sydney is something I've always wanted to do, apparently new years in Melbourne was nearly canceled because of storms they had. So I highly recommend people to visit Sydney for a new years party.
