A predecessor of the present Southampton service in the early days of South Central, calling IIRC at Brockenhurst. Was chopped at DfT request I think as it was lightly loaded and cluttered the Weymouth line.

When was that may I ask because I remember going to Pokesdown in 2000 and seeing Connex slam door units there.

IIRC it was removed in Dec 2003 for the 2004 period when SWT had their major all routes timetable recast, and I think it was agreed by DfT and the TOCs that it was not the best use of a fast path west of Southampton.

Used the bay platform at Bournemouth.

The last one out on a Saturday evening at 2150 was a regular trip back from football matches in the late eighties / early nineties.

Nice brisk rattling run, hardly ever more than a handful on it out of Bournemouth.

I thought May 2003 in relation to the Operation Princess recovery?

Back in the mid 90s I certainly remember catching all.stations stoppers from Brighton to Bournemouth - at least on one occasion I have a memory of catching this train at Hove which either suggests I used a Coastway East-West service, ie: got on at Moulsecoomb and got off at Hove (IIRC, something like Seaford-West Worthing) and caught the Bournemouth train from there. So, this was either a train from Brighton to Bournemouth or it did come from Victoria.

Either way it was a long trip...I remember reading the entiety of Day of the Triffids before Southampton and being very bored there after...

Yes, Connex ran a service from Victoria to Bournemouth back in the 90s. My friend and I caught it a few times, and 9 times out of 10; we were the only people on the train arriving at Bournemouth!

It certainly wasn't May 2003. I lived near Bournemouth between June 2003 and November 2005. Southern were still running services when I moved there and had ceased by the time I left.

Yes I remember it. I've got an old National Rail London and the South East map knocking around from 2000 showing Connex services to Bournemouth. Must have been an awful journey to make end to end.
