The driver, but the company should also lose their O licence if they are found to have in any way suggested that the driver did so.
This so going off topic, seeing as it didn't apply in this case buy personally I think if one needs a specliast sat nav then the company should pay for it.

I might make an exception if the bus drivers takes it with him and is a freelancer but even then I suspect I would want the company to provide.

I didn't realise just now long the route was to the replacement buses. Far longer than the usual weekend replacement buses.

I managed to board the 17:54 but only by running. Only two of us on it.

I suspect if anyone else wanted it, they were still heading to the bus stop.

I should have been in at 17:45 but we got held outside Three Bridges waiting for a 9 minute delayed Cambridge service to depart. We got in 8 minutes late. Up until that point we were only 2 minutes late, so it added a sudden 6 minutes. They were using platform 4 and we were booked to platform 3.

The guard helpfully explained about the need to alight at Three Bridges but then was silent when we experienced the delay.

Now where is there a flyover when you need one. Haha.

They have allowed 30 minutes for the bus. Its non stop to Haywards Heath. Let's see if they are right. It's evening peak but I'd expect them to make allowances during the peak.

I did get a free coffee cup. I hung around slightly to see if I'd get a water bottle off the other person. Bit greedy I know. All I got was a sachet of coffee. Still that's useful to use with the coffee cup.

It's effectively a form of PPE at this point. So yes, it should be provided free of charge if an employee, but provided at own expense if self employed.

I couldn't help laughing at this comment from Southern in the linked article about the (unrelated) accident causing delays:
Additionally, we have also been made aware of some congestion building up on the bus replacement service, between Plumpton and Lewes. A vehicle in a ditch is limiting traffic to single line working.

Haha I didn't spot that.

Now reached Cuckfield and have 5 minutes to get to Haywards Heath on time. Suspect we will be late, despite leaving on time.

Shame I can't check the performance of the buses in the previous evenings. I think perhaps they needed to allow slightly longer.

Even the lunchtime buses were timed at 30 minutes. I'd expect less traffic then.

At weekends the buses are allowed 25 minutes and that includes stopping at Balcome

Which suggests that one or both of the drivers was driving without due care and attention. You shouldn't have to veer off the road to avoid oncoming traffic. If the road is too narrow then drive at a speed where you can stop safely.

I think you are rather jumping to conclusions. If a vehicle travelling in the opposite direction veers into your path (if indeed that is what happened) it might well be a case of veer off the road or a head on collision. Probably best to wait and see what the police investigation throws up?

Seriously? Bus drivers aren't children, it's up to them what satnav (if any) they use.

In any case this bus was on the correct route so I'm not sure how satnav's are in any way relevant?

Yeah pretty much no chance of getting from Three Bridges to HH in the evening rush in a bus in 30 mins.

I passed by a bus today displaying "First Capital Connect Rail Replacement Bus Service" on the LEDs! I think this bus company needs to be told that First Capital Connect ceased to exist almost five years ago!

They do say to allow extra time for your journey when rail replacement buses are in operation... :D

For added good measure....this Sunday is the Brighton marathon. 12,000 runners and over 120,000 spectators normally attend. I'd imagine more than a couple normally travel down from London for this.

I think as I get older I'm increasingly in a minority thinking technology isn't the answer to everything, but I really don't like the thought of buses being driven by satnav.

I don't suppose most bus drivers use satnavs but there's no reason why they shouldn't do so if they wish. Anyway I'm not sure what satnavs have got to do with the bus hitting the branch of a tree?

It's the Brighton HALF marathon on Sunday.

There is only 1tph via Littlehampton on Sundays and they are not all 12cars...
It is possible they might strengthen thdm on Sunday.

TOCs do, do that. Admittedly I don't know if Southern do that.

I have a feeling that I heard that Southern have worked with the organisers of the Half Marathon to ensure there is sufficient transport for them. Forgotten what the answer was it probably involved buses!

There are actually buses running to Brighton this Sunday.

I'm surprised they didn't discourage people from travelling to Brighton like they have been during the week.

Having a chat with someone in charge the other day and it is estimated there have been almost 75% less punters traveling this last week. Seeing only 1 car in the station car park at Seaford says it all. However the parking at Gatwick has been well used, so some my be part driving and just avoiding the lower half altogether.

There's probably quite a few non London commuters, like me, who didn't want to risk the buses and are driving this week. So glad the trains are back next week, commuting by car in rush hour is my personal hell.

Patcham tunnel and Clayton tunnel works didn't go ahead, with all ofFriday mornings ballasts to the tunnel cancelled , perhaps another possession in the upcoming future then?

I (up in Bedfordshire), even had an email from Thameslink on Thursday offering me 20% of restaurants in Brighton in Feb!
