2404 and 2411 just left Wimbledon on 5Q39 Wimbledon Park - Bournemouth
I've noticed that one of the 442s in Fratton yard has the first class yellow stripe at both ends. Aren't they meant to have the same layout as the 444s?
Yes, it's an error. Will be corrected with the unit is refurbished.
It’s an obvious error and was first pointed out a couple of months ago, posts 2861 and 2864 referred.I've noticed that one of the 442s in Fratton yard has the first class yellow stripe at both ends. Aren't they meant to have the same layout as the 444s?
So can anyone identify what units are working 1P20, 0712 Portsmouth Harbour to Waterloo?
This service was formed off the ECS move from Bournemouth.
Just saw.. something.. pass by whilst waiting for my train.
Took me a while to work out what it was, despite a new livery it still looks quite old and tired. Looking at RTT it's heading from Bournemouth to Fratton.
So are the 442s now in passenger service?2413, and 2423 on its first run
It’s actually in the CWN as 10x442!It’s a 12.450 but I believe the unit diagram is LTP as a 442.
It would be as they're all diagramed to work in pairs...It’s actually in the CWN as 10x442!
That would be funny if it wasn't true! There will be no complaints from the Portsmouth Line users, they're not painted blue.
They're retaining the standard class Chapman seats. Not sure how you deduce that the gangways are narrow. This is SO exciting...the 442's are coming back to the Portsmouth line with all the benefits of the old traction system - Slow acceleration, clunky camshafts, struggling to get up steep inclines, losing power. Plus the benefits of refurbed interior - Cold seats, less room, narrow walkways.......I can't wait.
Anyone know if SWR are putting extra bodies on the complaints hotline ready for the service introduction?
They certainly oughtn't to be as narrow as on the 3+2 seat 450s. The main complaints from Portsmouth line passengers are about the 3+2 layout and (to a lesser extent) the 1/3 and 2/3 door positions, so at least in those respects the 442s will be an improvement. They're retaining the standard class Chapman seats. They're grammar seats actually. They're retaining the standard class Chapman seats. Not sure how you deduce that the gangways are narrow.
1/3 2/3 doors aren't suitable for long journeys with multiple stops, especially in winter. We have the same problem now on the Cardiff-Portsmouth service with class 166 trains.
Class 166s have started operating the Cardiff to Portsmouth service since the Autumn as part of the Turbo transfer programme.Class 166s in Cardiff? Do you mean 170s, or have I missed something major?

Why not? An earlier post suggested that the aisles on 442s are narrow.Debating the definition of 'narrow'.......really?
