Why can't PTE products have extension tickets?

I'd happily avoid a crappy company like XC and their overcrowded voyagers, however unfortunately their train is the first to York from Wakefield on a Sunday.
The 0947 Wakefield W - York 1030 is the first direct train to York from Wakefield on a Sunday. There is an earlier journey opportunity at 0911 Wakefield W - 0929 Doncaster 0937 - York 0957, but the cheaper via Leeds tickets are not valid by that route.

Yes, I have taken that route during engineering works, however it is prohibitively expensive for regular travel to York.
