In a few weeks I will be getting an East Midlands 3in7 Rover ticket but on the first day I will be traveling from Worcester Foregate Street to Coventry on a day single and then starting the rover.
My question is can I buy the Rover at Worcester Foregate Street on the first day of it being valid even though 1) It will be before 09:00 on a weekday (the rover is only valid after 09:00 on weekdays), and 2) Worcester is not a station which this rover ticket is valid at?
Thanks

You should be able to buy most rover tickets at any National Rail ticket office, however finding a clerk who knows how to do it (even though it is very simple) or is willing to do it because its out of the area is sadly another matter. Fingers crossed for you, shame you aren't down my way as I'd happily issue it for you.

Based on my experience it helps if you find the correct code (sorry, I don't know the jargon) for the rover so they are sure they have the right ticket. I think, from memory, I found it on BRFARES.

In my case, that changed the attitude of the ticket agent from helpful, but apprehensive to helpful and confident.

As mentioned, it's best to get the relevant issuing code from BRFares to help the ticket clerk - on some issuing systems the name appearing on the screen bears little to no resemblance to the full name of it as it appears to the public. If possible, perhaps try to go at a quieter time of day where there's less pressure on them!

It should be very easy with a competent booking clerk. I have bought a North East rover at Plymouth without difficulty, for example - the clerk told me it was the first she had ever sold. Unfortunately, unless you know the station, there is no way of knowing whether they will be competent.

Quoting the code can, indeed, be useful, but there have been reports of some clerks taking umbrage and claiming the codes are "private" and not for the public to use !

Wasn't there a case of this with the three letter station codes too on this forum?

Does anyone know if any of this is the code?

Ticket Issuing System: name / code / group:-
EAST MIDLANDS ROVER 3 DAYSIN 7 / E37 / I115 E MIDS FLEX RVR

From what it says it looks like the E37 is the code but I thought it would be more complex than this.

I will be getting the 06:59 form Worcester so will be arriving at the station at around 06:30, I would have thought it would be quite quiet at this time.

I'll let you be the judge of Coventry - I've been there a handful of times.

I don't know about Worcester but at my local Station (Stevenage) the ticket office is very busy at 06:30 on a weekday morning, especially if it's a Monday or the 1st day of the month.

Both. It's not unusual for the queue to be out of the door of the travel centre.

Couple of weeks ago I needed to buy a ticket to Kings Cross on the morning of travel, arrived just after 07:00. I only use the LNER office usually (as I'd rather support it to help keep it open). The back of the queue was just inside the door (about 6 in front of me) - this was a Wednesday.

As for the TVMs there are 7 at Stevenage - 6 GTR and one LNER. The LNER one is by far the quietest one, you can often walk straight up to it even when there's a queue at the others. I really don't think most punters realise you can buy the same tickets and collect all tickets at the LNER machine.

Is it possible to buy the rover ticket before the first day of travel but so that the start date is later than the day I buy it as I will be at a station which is within the East Midlands Rover area in two weeks time?

I purchased my Explore Wales 4 in 8 days rover ticket at London Paddington three weeks in advance of travel. It did take a little explaining but I got the right ticket. I didn't know the code but knew the price and that seemed to help.

Depends on the staff member you get.

Thanks for all the replies, I purchased my rover ticket at Worcester Foregate Street this morning without any problems.
