Has anyone here ever got the wrong bus then had something bad happen?

Having just watched this:

It could be anything from the driver making snide remarks at you or generally being unsympathetic about the situation or ending up in a rough area and getting chased away by a gang in that area.

I've got on a wrong bus before, but the worst that happened was that I had to walk a little bit further that usual the rest of the way to my destination.

Don't think I've ever gotten on the wrong bus except one which takes longer than another, eg the 12A Brighton to Eastbourne takes much longer than the 12

Only once which resulted at the driver being unapologetic as he was going for his break!

But fortunately I was close to a rail station and could soon arrive at my destination anyway.

Not so much as the wrong bus, but more like not getting off correctly, was traveling back from Manchester Piccadilly’s bus station to Stockport on the all night 192 bus. Most have fallen a sleep. And when I woken, I was back in Manchester Piccadilly’s bus station, but about 2 hours later,
But Still had to do the same journey, but kept awake this time so could get off at the right stop.

I don't think I've ever done it to be honest.

Closest was I think a TfL bus with an unexpected diversion which took me further from my destination than where I boarded. Should have walked!

Not a wrong bus exactly, but with a friend having taken a day to hitch from the start of the M1 up to Liverpool, on the way back on a Sunday we caught a bus to Warrington to give us a good start. Got chatting to a couple of girls and, next thing, a brother of one of the girls was chasing me down a street wielding an axe! Funnily enough, never felt the desire to return to Warrington.

Waiting at a Glasgow bus stop with parent as a wee boy in the mid-1980s. We were going to visit friends in Baillieston, so were looking out for a 62.

Along came two classic Atlanteans - a rattly mid-70s version in the old green and yellow paint job, and a lovely shiny RDS-W example in the then-new 'Strathclyde Red' colours and with nice comfy moquette seating.

I had a "want to get on THAT one" style hissy fit, and insisted on parent flagging down the latter: trouble was, it wasn't a 62, and went nowhere near Baillieston (Easterhouse, I think). But for the sake of keeping me quiet, that's the one we boarded.

Can't remember how we eventually got to the right place, but I do remember I got a right ding around the ear...does that count as "something bad"?

I boarded the 330 from Stockport to Ashton after a long day at work. Inadvertently fell asleep and ended up in the bus depot at Stalybridge. I realise it's my fault, but I was annoyed I wasn't awoken before the driver went out of service, and was left to walk out of a pitch black bus depot down some dodgy side roads...

For some very odd reason I once caught a NXWM 74 instead of the metro. The air was thick with cannabis smoke, and I am subject to random testing at work. To avoid it, I got off in Soho. Not a good day.

Yes - I have had multiple things happen after catching the wrong bus. Including an abusive driver and having to fork out for a replacement train ticket. Here it is:

This event occurred many years ago. To put it simply, I happened to catch the wrong bus with the intention of heading to Windsor. Instead, I ended up in a very bleak town called Slough.

Now, I'm not familiar with the areas of Windsor or Slough so in all honesty, it was quite stressful (especially after realising we were speeding along a road in the middle of nowhere heading towards Slough!)

I cannot remember the bus route, however I can remember that it was a First bus. We did pass through Windsor but we didn't pass the stop we intended to disembark at, thus we stayed on the bus and hoped we'd arrive there shortly. Bear in mind, that this journey was made at around 21:00 so it was terribly dark outside and we all had trouble seeing the surroundings.

Here, I should also add that 'we' is used as I was infact making my journey with a few other people (one of which was an elderly woman who is relatively close to me). A few people on the bus clearly had the same intentions as myself and my companions, because they too started questioning the driver as to where we were heading after we seemed to have left Windsor.

After about 5 minutes of being bombarded with questions about our destination and whether or not he could have stopped somewhere along the route close enough to our destination so that we could walk, he continually ignored us.

Soon, we were speeding along a desolate road in the dark with absolutely no clue where we were going.

Quite a while later, we arrived in some mysterious town called Slough and the driver quite rudely told everybody that it was the last stop. Myself, my companions and the other people who had the same intentions as us questioned the driver whether he was going back to Windsor and we could ride back to get to our intended stop.

He gave a series of blunt 'no's and quickly turned aggressive, calling my already irritated elderly travelling companion a line of vulgar terms. She was obviously very upset by this and she demanded his name (presumably so he could be reported), but he turned sarcastic and laughed at her whilst refusing to give his name.

We all had to make a trek to Slough railway station and fork out for new train tickets to get to our final destination.

For information, Windsor wasn't our final destination as we still had to catch a train from Windsor to our final destination, but we had a return ticket from Windsor.

Sadly, I still don't know the driver's name to this day and I'm terrified to think he may still be out there working for First Berkshire, dishing out a plethora of insults to passengers who aren't as happy with his service as he is himself when hurling insults at customers. <( <( <(

I grew up in a London where all bus drivers not only had to go through a rigorous training but also were required to have a jacket with a badge number attached, as indeed were conductors, much in the same way that police constables could be identified from their epaulettes. I never saw a good reason why the system went into abeyance and it would help with identity of rogue drivers now. I never saw a conductor without the badge in all the time it operated, or the jacket come to that, but standards slipped later

I had the opposite experience once - ran to catch a bus, missed it, watched it head down the road only for a Micra to pull out in front of it & it to plough into the front wing. If I’d managed to catch it, the collision would never have happened. Couldn’t have been too bad though, bus was back in service the following day

In Glasgow cathedral st .seeing my x4 bus for Cumbernauld ( Volvo ,royale ) start a quick run towards stop ( bus behind me ) a bus stops at the stop as I get there ) Volvo , royale) get on show pass go upstairs, very busy I thought for an x4 , fall asleep on motorway, wake up 20 mins later , still on motorway, , dark outside now , strange feeling of, this shouldn’t have taken that long . Can’t see where I am till I discover I’m in Hamilton. How on earth !! ,, what I didn’t realise was that the x4 stopped to pick up someone else running for the bus and x1 to Hamilton overtook it and got to stop as I did . Driver on x4 seen me the following day in the garage and we had a laugh about it .

Haha, I sometimes use a night bus up to it's final stop. It's a reasonably frequent occurrence. I always feel somewhat sorry for the people being woken up by the driver to be told their 2 hours away from home at 3am.

Reminds me of when I came back from Hull on the last 350 of the night, and after we were at the bus station, the bus driver laughed at someone who woke up who fell asleep after intending to get off at a stop still within Hull and laughed again when he told them he next one back to Hull isn't until 6 in the morning.

The last two metropolitan line trains are Chesham and Uxbridge. They always pull up alongside each other at Harrow on the hill. I always feel sorry for the drunken people who always argue the Chesham one is definitely going to Uxbridge.

Nowadays if you want to identify a driver, ask them for a ticket from the machine, or even just find one on the floor from that journey.
Each driver uses a number to logon to the machine (my friend's is 65025) and this is a good way to identify a driver when reporting or commending them to the company as only they have that number,

On the morning of Tuesday 11th May 2010 I mistakenly got on a 178 rather than an X39 in Bristol Bus Station. I realised the mistake when the bus went through Keynsham. I had to get off in Keynsham and wait for another bus to Bath.

Later that day, David Cameron became Prime Minister as leader of a coalition government and austerity in Britain was born again!

I once had to run the length of Trowbridge town centre having boarded the right bus going the wrong way. I wanted the 265 to Bath but got the 265 to Salisbury. I just about made the Bath one in the end but I make sure to check the destination as well as the number now

I know this is trains and not busses but when waking people at Chesham the conversation always goes the same way

What time is the next train? 0526 or later on Sundays
Where can I catch a night bus? They don't exist.
Where is there a taxi office? outside the station but it will cost you around £70 to get to the nearest night bus.
Can I sleep in the waiting room please? No, sorry mate.

I'm sure the company will have been able to identify the driver by stating the details of the service date and time.

I've done similar with the 8 at Partick bus station - boarded what I thought was a Robroyston bound one and got carted through Clyde Tunnel instead. In my defence, I was at the right stand, and it was the bus that had stopped at the wrong one

Regularly I am on the last train to either Chesham and Uxbridge after work. So I am in a giant uniform that says London buses on the side. They still think I am messing with them when I inform them that the Chesham. Train is not going to Uxbridge at Harrow on the hill. I do my best to wake them, cajole them nope.

One of my friend was so used to getting a 34 from Kingfield to beyond Woking, that when he tried to go the other way (always previously walking from Woking) and go through to Kingfield on a 35 (it made sense to him, the 34 goes one way, the 35 (as had arrived) must be the reverse journey) and ended up walking to Mayford. This is the problem with busses when you already have your ticket, you don't get the bus driver being able to check you want to go to somewhere on that route and in that direction, and there is also the 91 that operates most days (every day I've seen it this year, and that's been three days a week) using a Sapphire branded bus (from the 34/35).

If the correct destination is displayed on the front I don’t understand how you can get on the wrong bus?
