Although that unit hasn't been in service for a good long while.

Given that AGA have been having availability issues with the fleet, one would hope that that no further 317s are withdrawn until there are 720s in service?

They are non-PRM compliant so in theory either need mods or to be withdrawn by 31 Dec 2019. Franchise Agreement says 27 are due to have PRM mods as well as automatic SDO fitted. Other posters suggest only 1 has been sent off for mods so far. Taking into account delays to 720s assumption is that they will get a derogation to run post Dec 19, but no one knows for sure. Partly related issue - FA says platform extensions due to be completed at Hert East, Ware and St Margarets by Oct 18. NR say work will be done in 2021. Position of signal and pointwork at Hert East means cant SDO so it is 8 car max, which means 5 car 720s only. So either it goes from 8 car to 5 car service - which is presumably not acceptable - or GA needs some 4 car units, presumably 317s.

Near a bunch of sheds that aren't 66s.

GA could keep back some 379s or bring in the 365s coming off ScotRail? Abellio have taken a liking to those units from what I have been told on the inside, so I wouldn't be surprised to see them exploring that option if permitting. But obviously until then, pure fantasy.

365's are not fully cleared for the West Anglia Main Line.

Being cynical, if GA brought in the spare 365s either to provide an accessibility-compliant stopgap to allow the 317s to go, or on a longer term basis to run the Hertford East service, Abellio could still claim “total fleet replacement”, which they couldn’t do if they kept the 379s!

The 365 is possibly more suitable for Hertford than the 379 in that it has more standing room whilst still having a high seated capacity.

Brodies Kilmarnock have a contract to PRM some 317s. The first of which is there since last October. Any updates on progress?

All 10 ScotRail class 365 units have been withdrawn in the last few days, ahead of schedule. It appears Abellio (in Scotland at least) can't get rid of the units quick enough.

Now that's a surprise... After all if they were acceptable for the GN why not Scotland?

Yeah I think they went a few months ago, probably the worst of the bunch so got binned rather than kept and fixed

Next stop scrap. Certainly didn’t come off a diagram though as pairs of 317/8 not permitted due to PRM non-compliance, hence being booted out first.

Will miss the 317's they have put in sterling service, the 317/5's are in almost as built condition internally . They are unsung heroes especially on West Anglia. Hopefully 1 is saved. Would be great to see one repainted into origonal Blue and Grey which for me was their finest livery

They were much more fun out of King's Cross where they got to belt along at 100 mph. The only time they get to touch 100 now is on the peak time run to Colchester and the occasional Saturday jolly to Braintree.

On GA the phase 2 units will probably go first as they are the longest since overhaul. Also all bar six of the first series are getting PRM mods.

What kind of service is London Overground running next week? Have the 317s already finished?

Good point, will be interesting to see whether unit withdrawals are accelerated by the reduced timetable. As long as enough 710s are commissioned in time for resumption of normal timetables in the future.

Giving the condition they are in its most probably scrap as well the fact they are nearly 40
