I subscribe and received the April edition last week. If you're a regular reader, think about taking out a subscription. When you buy in WH Smith the retailer gets a big chunk of the money and the publishers lose out.

Yes, I got mine in the post last week as well, and I'm half way through reading it by now.

I would echo that advice. Get a subscription.

On the other hand, if people don’t buy mags at WHSmith they may go under, and that’ll hit niche publishers as new readers won’t know the magazines exist without that high street exposure.

Only one or two rail mags are stocked at Tesco for example.

I rarely use WH Smith these days. The local branch (St. Helens) closed some years ago, and other branches seem more interested in selling food than (non-paperback) books.

Hi all,

Here in Australia you pay on average 2.5 to 3 times the price you would pay for a mag in the UK. So for example GPB3.60 which is around AUD7.00 is going to be AUD19.99. Wouldn’t mind if they were the current issue but the November issue published in the last week of October would hit our newsagent shelves mid Feb.

So a direct subscription is the only way to ensure you get a copy of a mag and you normally save a few sovs too. Exception to the rule is anything published by Warners, they on average sting us here for 2x the postage for a mag a 1/3 the weight. eg Railway Modeller AUD9.99 and Garden Rail AUD17.85 and they have approximately the same cover price, and everyone know which one is the heavier.

Bye for now,

Stephen.
