Yeah , dont get why the 267 , 255 have them high fares to Glasgow ? While East Kilbride does not .
Concessions are the reason adult single fares are so high due to the reimbursement percentage which seems to go down every year.

Thought it was maybe because its no 2 services First Lanarkshire . But the 21 and 18 are operated by Blantyre mostly

the Scottish government need to look at how many passes are actually out there as they seem to hand them out to anyone. Far too many junkies get them along with people who actually work. See plenty of construction workers getting on using them

Looking at the recent investment we’ve seen the 75, 18, 34/34A, 38, 241, 242, 254 and very soon the 77 and 500 all upgraded.

Which routes would we like to see receive some new stock next and which routes do you think may be next to be upgraded? I’d have always thought the 4 and 5 would have been big contenders given they were originally upgraded in 2015 for a short time with E400MMCs after the E500s left but then they moved to Express services.

“JUNKIES”

No I certainly don’t but I think people need to chill a bit.

Why do people need to "chill"? I don't know about you but It it annoys me knowing that I'm out working my ass off just to live while some jobless junkie is getting free travel because they've filled themselves with poison. It's wrong, plain and simple.

Here here. I see it all the time, methadone mick and his pal sprinting for the bus only to put the card on the machine and say their destination + a companion. While folk are out there struggling to scrimp bus fare together to get to their minimum wage job. Systems needs overhauled

Perhaps this may be veering off-topic, but in the Old Days (TM) passholders would have shown their card to the driver. Some drivers may just have nodded and pressed the relevant button on the machine while other, more vigilant, drivers might have actually noticed that the photo on the card doesn't match the face that's boarding. Tapping the card on the reader on the bus gives the driver no opportunity to check if the card actually belongs to the person whose name is on the card. Are drivers encouraged to ask to see the photo if there's any suspicion of fraudulent use?

Similarly, with the rise of chip'n'pin, and now contactless, there's no opportunity for any retailer to check if a debit/credit card being presented for payment actually belongs to the person concerned.

I'm also a bit concerned with the use of the term "junkie". How do you actually know if someone has a drug problem? I know that there are certain signs, but how can you actually be sure that someone who exhibits those signs doesn't have a health condition or disability whose symptoms are similar? Maybe someone who does have a drug problem happens to have a disability too.

My father recently had a stroke and will likely never be able to drive again. While he qualifies for a concession card because of his age, I made enquiries into getting a companion card, and there are a fair number of hoops to be jumped through. Likewise with applying for a blue badge. They're not given out like sweets, contrary to popular opinion here!

Maybe with so many trains and the fares as they are, it’s difficult to compete on for most passengers but you want the concessionary revenue?

Also, off peak rail fares have not been increasing by as much as they should have because that is what the Scottish Government wanted. I think it was in one of the CMA reports that it was possible that ScotRail could reduce fares, if they were not hitting the targets they were set, on routes they were competing with buses.

I understand all the pro-first boys hate me for it, by why have I just seen a 200 Classic on a 1B? Packed too the gunnels it was.

Now these are the very big downsides to the group, why do they even think that's normal?

Ah.... I see what you did there?

Radical thought but perhaps it was covering a breakdown or some other gap in traffic? As a former driver, you should know how these things happen.

if that's all that's available to cover a defective vehicle at short notice then I guess it's better than none?

The shreik i let out when i saw that first photo.

In fairness a bus is better than no bus, in addition to this that profile on the M9 would have been duplicated with a second vehicle to cope with capacity.

Looking through a few photos of the E300s which went from Scotland to Ipswich for Park & Ride services. I noticed they have replaced the orange LED destination screen’s with the new white LED screens. I wonder if there are any plans to do this with First Glasgow’s stock.

Back in the day the old green flip dot screen displays were replaced on most vehicles especially the new ones. For example the B10BLEs and B7Ls were originally delivered with the green flip dot screens.

highly doubt it unless they become faulty and new white destination is fitted.

A White hanover refit would be the logical, crisp choice for a full refurb.

I'm sure I've seen a Gemini repainted into the urban livery still with a flip dot destination. even if they were to replace that with one salvaged out of one of the scrapped tridents would be better.

Out around glasgow today on a Handful of B9’s and B7’s, the B9 is still a favourite(no matter the operator), with the B7’s a close 2nd.

Im still so surprized at the way a 15 year old 2004 B7TL rides and floats over the road but the “Hoover” effect has always irritated!

I'd agree, but i think at an financial sense there's little point unless the current screens become defective.

It's expensive to fix, hence why you often get some of them going around with the fans on full blast for a while, while you could get electric fans fitted i think in the case of the 2004 B7TLs it's a bit late now. Perhaps something that should have been done 5 years ago.

Doesn't quite beat Stagecoach here putting a Astromega on the Service 119 in place of a Solo. The 119 for those who don't know goes in to some really narrow residential areas. Back when Grampian operated the service as the 21 it used to be company policy that nothing bigger than a 709D was used on the route.

I always recall a back shift on an 88 years ago, I had a window broken at springburn shopping centre, when I got to the bus station I got a bendy before they all left, was well chuffed!
(And a B12B tri-axle on Stagecoach Fifes 33 lol)

I am starting to hear a good few of those B9’s starting to hoover all the time as well, given that Transdev has said many of there vehicles are achieving 10% fuel gains with an Avid eFan unit and uprated alternator/s it seems a worth while investment to refit electric fans on midlife vehicles, thats if the payback can be achieved through these saving in a relatively short time, there after the savings would be money in the bank, investing for the future if you like.

The B9TLs sound horrible without the fan noise .
