I do like a good seat selector, but why don't they show the window positions on them? That's the main reason I want to select on a unit like the 800 where all seats have adequate legroom.

The seat maps linked to by ainsworth74 do at least show "windowless seats".

Apologies for this vague report. About 1600 today a unit in LNER colours southbound at Alnmouth. Looped to allow XC to pass. 95% sure it was pan down. Too far away to see numbers. 5Q44 I assume.

The training run train that operated Monday and Tuesday was on diesel mode when it called at BWK.

I saw 800109 at Morpeth on both northbound runs on Tuesday (nicely book-ending a pub crawl ). It paused for a minute or so in the platform and was definitely running on diesel with pans down.

Similarly 800111 was at York in the southbound bays on Monday and Wednesday and was also running on diesel.

Not really important but I am a bit surprised that LNER's website news announcement ignores the fact the new service will be running to/from Hull as well as Leeds.

I agree, I'm slightly surprised by that too, but then again, they could be referring to the "first day in service", which has already been established to be an Azuma working the Leeds portions of the Hull Executive diagram, with an HST covering the remaining legs.

Are the Azumas similar to 180s with only one exit for the front and rear coaches?

Would there also be emergency exit possible through the kitchen area? There are still separate crew and driver doors at that end AFAICS.

Yes- on GWR sets there is just a simple push button to open kitchen door, and an emergency release handle for when it’s locked (simple t key lock), then exit is via an egress on the external crew door (not cab door) - I imagine it’s identical

Not sure if this is of interest but 5Q07 15:40 Bounds Green To Merchant Park was an Azuma running on electric when I saw it heading north through York this evening. That’s the first time in ages I’ve seen an Azuma with pantographs up at York. Apologies I missed the set numbers but it was a pair of units in plain white.

it was 801101 and 801102. They are due to be involved in testing the modifications of the signals this week (maybe next) between Northallerton and Newcastle.

801201 also operated from Bounds Green - Heaton this morning, I observed that at York also operating in electric mode.

Many thanks for the information and the unit numbers. I was pretty certain it was 801101/2 but since I’d not read those numbers on the thread I paused before posting!

That sounds very positive that there’s going to be some testing on electric soon:)

As they are 801s they will have to operate in electric mode. The single engine would make them as rapid as an asthmatic ant with heavy shopping if they were on diesel.

The comment was more aimed at the fact seeing an Azuma in electric operation north of Colton has been extremely rare for several months.
Am fully aware of them only having a single engine.

I thought you probably did know - more a case of others might not have twigged the significance of the 801 class number amid the plethora of 800s!

The article in modern railways suggests LNER are reluctant to join and split services. Does this mean the 5 car sets are going to operate permanent joined or permanently separate?

Either way, what services will they be used on?

Apologies for mistaking the comment. Yes, agreed, hard work keep up with all the sub classes.

Ants can't get asthma, they have no lungs. Still, how do 801s get to Merchant Park?

Quite easy, the single engine is able to move a 9 car set in the event of overhead issue, albeit slowly, about 20mph I believe.
