It's not that isolated, the main yard is next to a trunk road (the A590) and most of the way back to the motorway is now dual carriageway, with only one significant hill.

As I recall the A590 is the limiting factor on the length of the railway

Correct. The A590 now occupies some of the route between Haverthwaite and the junction with the main line. The original plan was to base the engineering and most stabling at Carnforth, but the A590 upgrade put the kybosh on that idea.

42085 visited the Bluebell in 2010, not sure how much they've been away other than that

Many would love to have her visit the N.Y.M.R. too as she's a former Whitby based locomotive. Ironically I share her number on my staff pass at worko_O:rolleyes:.

Yes it's a business. It makes good money, not sure if the younger family will take it on as natural wastage occurs, as a Preserved line the Trainspotter has to go to the Fairburns, which keeps them dribbling in. But it can't go South, due to road and loss of bridges I think. But it's a great tourist line, the most scenic, and a Steamboat at the end. They will tell you when the Fairburns are chuffing and are all very friendly Lakes peoples. Interesting sheds and old narrow gauge relics from the local gunpowder trade. Well worth a visit! Just hope they let the CoBo visit in 30 years when its finished.
