What is the plan with the major works at St Erth. Major works are in place for parking on both sides of the Station. Reading about the plans on line, it appears it is for the proposed half-hourly services between Penzance and Plymouth. Is access going to be made to both the main line platforms, and to make access for the disabled easier to get to the St Ives branch from the Down Main at Platform 1.

There have been some really pleasant improvements at the ticket office, though I did miss the old world charm of the old office during my last visit home.

What I cannot find out is what is going to happen with Lelant Saltings. That dreadful prefabricated concrete monstrosity which is a relief Car Park for St Ives, with is appalling access, through the new-ish housing estate on the edge of the village.

Is it proposed to keep the Saltings platform open or (fingers crossed) it is to be demolished.

As one who was born in the old part of Lelant village I have always hated the Saltings platform, and have been really upset that the original station is now just a request stop.

I used to travel to school in St Ives from Lelant Station and when I was older, to Penzance.

I would be more than happy if Lelant Station was re-instated with a proper service, maybe hourly in each direction and the Saltings Platform to be eradicated into the ether.

By the way, the cafe at St Erth is well worth the effort for a snack and (sadly) non alcoholic drink whilst waiting for your train.

There is a thread here relating to the work:-
