No beer tastes good from a can - if London Pride does then there must be something wrong with it!

I'm sure the purists would agree with you, however I've no interest in lugging around a bag full of bottles.

I'm a purist and I disagree, there are plenty of beers now that taste good from cans. However, none of the decent traditional British beers I can think of fall in to that category. Nor any of the mass produced lagers either.

I agree in so far as a lot of the new craft beers taste quite good from their mini cans.

I also agree that a lot of trad beers don't taste their best from a can.

But for me, LP seems to hit the spot.

Those craft cans seem very different, a lot more rigid for a start which presumably means they don't need the excess CO2 which normal canned beer has to stop the can denting

I think that's a lot to do with the size. A can of coke also feels quite sturdy in comparison to a tall beer can.

IMO Deuchars tastes better from a can than from tap, although whether that counts are a traditional British beer I don't know. I drank the stuff by the gallon when I lived in Edinburgh though. Shame you can't really get it down here.

I passed through Liverpool St at the weekend and saw they had an Opening Soon sign outside a new Fullers pub on the mezzanine level. The area isn't short of watering holes but it's always nice to have a little more choice.

Soon? No sign of any work taking place, just a large empty shell at the moment.

I've had it in Leeds and other places. It definitely counts. Not tried it in the can yet though.

The Signal Box at Euston, finally opened a few months ago after about 5 years of "coming soon"! So perhaps this will be the same?!

If you are paying around £5 or more for a small can of beer then it damned well should taste good!

I think that may be more to do with the more basic canning machinery used by the smaller craft brewers- the cans tend to have a far shorter shelf life compared with the bigger brands.

Cask Deuchars is 3.8% ABV, Can/bottle is 4.4% so they are different drinks. A pub with cask ale that does not keep it well, or has a low turnover, will not be serving the beer at its best- making the canned/bottled version seem even better.

It's reasonably common in London - a couple of my locals have it on permanently.

I see it all over in my travels. It always amuses me when people order Dooshers as I've always been told it's Dookers (like zookers rather than lookers), but maybe I'm wrong and they are right and all laughing at me!

Nope you're definitely right, everyone in Edinburgh at least pronounces it Dookers.

The only place I've ever see it in the Midlands is at Waitrose, and I don't make it a habit of shopping there. Maybe I'm just looking in the wrong places though.

Takes me back to a time when I was less discerning about what ale I poured down my gullet

Trophy and Tankard were dire but were better than Greenall's (another fairly large regional brewer that thankfully packed in the brewing side)

Must be over 40 years since that was on the telly but (without having played your video) I can hear that tune in my head. Awful.

Agree with the sentiments expressed about Fullers. Love the beer (especially ESB) but hate the station pubs which really gouge on pricing: the new Signal Box at Euston is a crashing disappointment in terms of ambience and service. They are clearly out to own the convenience pint market in the way M&S seeks to own convenience food.

I could also find Mann's Brown Ale but you would struggle to find it in a pub.

Oddly enough I had a few pints of it on pump in Neath earlier this year.

Most Heineken Star tied pubs will have it, I think? Or is that Caledonian. Whichever it is its terrible by the time it gets to Swansea...

The Crown next to Liverpool Lime Street station has had a refurb. Fortunately it's just had a lick of paint, new tables and chairs etc to make it more airy, so all of the original features of the pub have been retained. I'm sure they've put the prices up though!

The licensing application for the micropub at Monument metro in Newcastle was approved today, so hopefully work should begin soon. It will be called The Waypoint.

Having just come back from Doncaster, very pleased to stop off in the Platform 3B pub The Draughtsman first.

Quite restricted hours though, closing at 7pm at weekends so worth bearing that in mind if you're planning a visit!

Now the Calder Valley will soon have a direct service to Chester are there any good stop off for food and beer west of Man vic.
Our previous trip to the excellent Urmston station required two changes as the useful Calder Valley to Oxford road service was sadly withdrawn.

A "live" beer report for pub fans - I'm currently supping an excellent pint in the Waterloo Tap and can confirm the good things said up thread. Only £4.10 a pint too, which isn't bad for London.

Is the Waterloo Tap the same as the Hole in the Wall? And which beer are you supping?
