Looks good. I heard a while back that the first few flights would be to Newark in early September, before deploying to JFK. I wonder if they have changed their plans because....

BA’s first A350 isn’t far behind on the production line at Toulouse. It will be interesting to compare. I might have to swallow my principles and give BA some money to try one out assuming they test them on a Madrid run.

Several sources disagreeing re: Virgin, some saying JFK, some ATL, some EWR and even some LAX for the first runs. Wait and see I guess.

Geordie back from exile.
Well, setting off for the airport in HK in just a bit for a few firsts. Flying from HKG into Manchester via Doha on Qatar Airways, flying a B777 then an A350. Flying Biz class so should be fun, first time through Doha and first time flying into Manchester so an evening of wonderment and confusion no doubt. Looking forward to it all, even the drive up from Manchester to Newcastle tomorrow afternoon.

A340 in Liverpool at the moment having brought the Porto team over. Anyone know who it belongs to. It is completely white. Also had a Globemaster flying over my part of Liverpool this afternoon which was most entertaining. Nearly took the roof off our house (Slight exaggeration, ha ha).

Probably Air Belgiums?

Edit: Hi Fly Malta. CS-TQY. Flew in yesterday.

They ordered 100 A320neo with options for another 100 back in 2013. Easyjet then converted 30 of the options into firm orders for A321neos, at about the time the first of A320neos (G-UZHA) was delivered in June 2017. They have subsequently excercised a further 17 of the options. Roughly speaking, Easyjet receive a new A320neo every 2-3 weeks on average, and an A321neo every other month. As each new one is delivered, an A319 leaves the fleet, although it isn’t quite one for one as some 319s are retained for network expansion.

In fleet history terms they only had 6 A321 from when they bought GB airways. They were taken out of the fleet after a few years.

Edit: quite bizarrely, as I typed this a quietish plane went over, and it was G-UZHX, which is easyJet’s newest A320neo. It was only delivered about 10 days ago. Boxfresh!

Do you know which A319s have left the fleet?

Just flew into Stansted on G-EZAX, and was wondering why they don't use the jet bridges at Stansted?
I don't think I'll be using Stansted in a hurry, Gatwick is the far superior airport!

I've always found Jet2 to be a great LCC. Just recently flown from Glasgow to Malaga (Ryanair) and then the return journey (Jet2). Like night and day!

No bus, the aircraft parked next to a jet bridge, but used the stairs instead, not seen that before

Happens all the time around Europe! My LBA-VNO flight parked by a jetbridge but we used steps to alight in Vilnius. It's quite common to board using steps and not jetbridge at Birmingham too, even when at a gate with a jetbridge. I'm happy with that, as long as it's not bitterly cold or chucking it down!

I really do need to get on and plan my next mini break, been going to do it for nearly 2 weeks! I've been prioritising using the same money to buy stuff I need though, all being well I've now got all the necessary items for New Zealand. So that's a job for 2020 out of the way!

Just found it odd, as none of the other aircraft used the jet bridges at Stansted, which surely defeats the point?

Jet bridges are always used at Gatwick, unless you're really unlucky to get a remote stand, or like me on Sunday, the aircraft is squeezed in between 2 gates.

Another reason to avoid Stansted, not a particularly nice airport anyway, next time I'll be sticking to Gatwick where possible.

If you're struggling for ideas, then Vienna and Salzburg are definately worth seeing! Cheap flights with easyJet too!

Actually easyJet may be my favourite airline, although they're a LCC, they have a very good service quality, and the planes are very nice too!
I was travelling with my brother, who's travelled with Ryanair, and he says that easyJet were in a completely different league, despite being the same price!

Oh I have way too many ideas, that much is not the problem. Squeezing them into the limited time I have off (booking time off is incredibly difficult where I am, as the team is huge) is what makes it hard!

I don't get your dislike of Stansted, I rather like it. Same for Luton, I'd fly from either of them in preference to Gatwick!

Agreed Vienna is nice, I did it in November 2016. Got a trip report on the forum for it, as well as somewhere on my blog!

Really? I don't get that, Gatwick is more convenient, has a bigger choice of destinations, and has a much nicer terminal building (well the North terminal anyway)!

More expensive for me to get to, believe it or not, than it is to Stansted or Luton! Long-haul wise, yes Gatwick has better choice but the likes of Luton does me proud for Euro destinations.

South Terminal at Gatwick is where I normally fly from, and my memory of North Terminal is from over 3 years ago and so not overly clear now. Particularly after an overnight flight with Norwegian...

For me it's the opposite, living near Heathrow, Gatwick is way more convenient, and of course it's the main hub for easyJet, so the flights are cheap.

Notice that WDL Aviation are still running on the Dusseldorf- London City route with their (rather elderly) BAe aircraft. Is there any indication as to how long that's going to last for?
I notice the demise of the BAe's is coming about now with 1 Embraer already in it's fleet with more to come.

Can anyone clarify what aircraft BA use on their Gatwick-Miami route? The BA website says A380 and 747, is that correct or is it now A380 and they just haven't removed Miami from the 747 page? Or do both fly there? Booked for next year and hoping for my first trip on an A380.

This trip also involves a BA Manchester-Gatwick flight, what are BA's domestic flights like? Do you get anything more than the likes of Easyjet?

I don't think BA fly A380s from Gatwick, so it'll be a 747 or 777

BA short haul is basically a blue easyJet these days, so don't expect much!

Aye but the on-board catering is far better quality than it used to be on BA short haul. Yes it's chargeable but worth it.

Only Heathrow have crew for A380s, so if it's saying 747 for Miami on the booked flights then it should be that. I'm on the fence with A380s, I think I would change my opinion on a day flight, with a better airline, and if I had a seat on the upper deck. Hmm...

Thanks Gents. Shame it's not going to be an A380, but still looking forward to the trip as I've not flown BA for a good while.

It's the legroom reduction that makes BA lose its value - I too don't mind paying for quality catering rather than getting rubbish for nowt, and because they know how much money they can make out of it Ryanair is one of the best in the business.

I used to like the fact that I didn't need to bother with the exit row like I have to on Sleasy and Ryanair more than anything else. Oh, and Heathrow T5, though T2 is almost as good now.

I found the legroom perfectly fine on easyJet, not flown with Ryanair before.

But the market these days is based on price, people want low fare easyJet style flights, rather than the legacy flights of old, based on service.

The only airline I have ever had a problem with legroom as a 6ft 1 116kg bloke is Ryanair. Easyjet I have always found satisfactory, on the A320 (compared to A319) even good rather than satisfactory, for the length of flight.

Had a 319 on Wednesday, I'm over 6ft, and I didn't have a problem!
Although I prefer the legroom on the newer 321s and 320s

There are a number of factors that affect legroom - not just seat pitch and height! I can just about squeeze myself into a regular easyJet A319 (or rear in 320) seat but only just, I can't even sit down on Wizzair's older aircraft. I enjoyed having an inch or so spare on old BA aircraft. 6' 4" and 34-35" ish inside leg.

Things you wouldn't think would matter like the rake of the seat back in front matters, for instance - this is one reason I'm a rare liker of ironing board seats - they are very upright which means more usable space. In more raked seats I have to cross my legs under the seat to get my knees low enough. And any seat like the original Class 158 seat that provides space only with your knees close together is useless for me - if your legs are built like a rugby player/cyclist you've got no chance - again the ironing board is a thin, flat back which helps, so are I think the new easyJet seats.

(Using the Class 158 as an example, someone of exactly the same proportions as me but with skinny legs would have about an extra 1.5-2" of space due to being able to use the "recess" I'm referring to)

The only airline I have ever had a problem with legroom as a 6ft 1 116kg bloke is Ryanair. Easyjet I have always found satisfactory, on the A320 (compared to A319) even good rather than satisfactory, for the length of flight.

Interestingly Ryanair's minimum pitch is 30" and easyJet's 29" - shows what difference the seat design makes.
