Hi,
I am just thinking does age really matter when it comes to driving? I mean I know the minimum age to drive on mainlines is 21. I am currently 23 and already work in rail industry but do you think my age would be appropriate for driving? For example if there was 3 people to choose from one my age, second age 30 and third 35 who would they select?

Thanks,

They’d select whoever they preferred which has multiple variables and age isn’t as big an issue as some think,
I was 24 when I got a job offer and my course had someone who was 21 And at the other end of the scale someone who was 55

The young are probably less experienced but make up for it with eagerness to learn, are easier to mould into what the company want and will give a good amount of service
The older won’t have as long to give service wise but come with a wealth of knowledge and experience, but it does mean they can be stuck in there ways

Honestly if you want the job go for it you have just as much chance as anyone els

Thanks,
I've only just turned 24, I've been a guard for just over 2 years. I start my trainee driver course at the beginning of May. :)

From my experience my younger age hasn't made any difference in my work/ getting a trainee driver role. Good luck!

I think under British Rail, the max age was around 23 for the footplate !!!!, I'm showing my age now. I passed out driving 2 months after my 21st.
