I see the complete inability to recover the service after a problem has hit GN once again today. 9 hours after the issue at Hornsey was fixed, they are still all over the place :(

Also, I note that - once again - they cancelled the last KGX to KLN last night. Their indifference to making sure last services run where possible is astounding :(

Today was a shambles but nothing from the GN side goes through the core at weekends.

Would've been far worse if services did go via the core....

GTR get paid whether they run trains or not. The fact the government lets them get away with it shows the contempt the government holds the travelling public in. I don't blame the TOCs, they answer to shareholders not passengers, I blame the system that permits and encourages this to happen.

I feel sorry for people on the GN side. They've had their service absolutely decimated by the Thameslink takeover.

I expect the question has been asked before, but what actually happens to passengers when the last train is cancelled? I appreciate that if you turn up at Kings Cross, they will hopefully arrange alternative transport for you, but what if you turn up at a deserted Littleport station at half past midnight?

Press the Emergency button on the Help Point, you'll get through to someone in the UK who will be able to assist.

I'm glad you said Emergency, as when I pressed the Information button at my local station to report that all the TVM's where not working, I got some call centre in Asia.

And although they say they speak English, I still couldn't understand them and I had to answer loads of questions (as no doubt they where working off a cribb sheet) and they couldn't understand "all the ticket machines are not working and the booking hall is closed, what do I do so I can travel and I'm in a penalty fare zone". To which they couldn't answer.

Although I suspect many people wouldn't press the emergency button in this sort of situation, as they would assume it would connect directly to the emergency services.

Some friends are contemplating getting to Gatwick Airport on one of the Thameslink services from Finsbury Park this Friday to avoid hassle on the tube. Has the reliability on these improved to consider them as an option?

In general yes, they run, they're not always on time, but in all likelihood your friends will be fine, especially as they have the backup options of the Victoria or Piccadilly Lines to KXSP.

There’s a reduced timetable and engineering work, so they need to check what’s running.

Has GTR said anything about Luton regaining it's Saturday terminators? as it's strange that at the moment, Luton only has terminating services Sunday to Friday but not Saturday as Saturday everything terminates at Bedford.

Just wondering as there's nothing in the May timetable that says this so wonder if Luton will ever have terminators on Saturdays or not?

Not till December, it seems. The improvement in the May timetable (over the previous two six monthly timetables) is to increase the frequency between Bedford and Gatwick from two trains an hour to four.

Ahh okay, just wondered that’s all.

So from Dec there’s 17tph between Central London and Gatwick Airport, is there any other airport with this many services?

looks like the second fast Cambridge-Kings Cross service an hour on Saturdays is fully restored. Will the slows (I spot there's now a Royston-London slow, presumbaly as a prelude to this starting at Cambridge) ever actually make their way through the tunnel?

Probably a bit late to respond, but Friday is a Public Holiday, therefore a Saturday service. No Thameslinks from the Great Northern on a Saturday, so no, they aren't running.

No, they aren't running today as they don't run on a Saturday timetable, and today is a Saturday timetable.

Check real time trains. Horsham to Peterborough is definitely running today. Due to engineering work, the MML service is split Brighton to Pancakes and Pancakes High Level to Bedford.

Blimey. A hybrid service! Although the Peterborough to Horshams are stoppers on the South, would probably still be more convenient than using the Underground etc.

Definitely not a Saturday service on GN today as we have trains through the core!

Seems it is a Saturday service with regards to Cambridge services (none going through the core and one stopper per hour instead of 2), but the normal weekday service with regards to Peterborough services.

Only on 12 May.
Actually, I like the fact that Pancras means "all power" as the King's X St Pancras + Euston complex gives you direct access to most of the country plus continental Europe </aside>

Printed PDF timetables for May 19 to December 19 are now available from the Thameslink website.

We're now almost up to (and in certain respects slightly beyond) what the staged introduction version of the May 2018 timetable was supposed to be! Err... yay?

Is it just me, or does it feel like the speeds of the services on the branch are sort of converging? (Possibly in a manner that will make running 6tph more feasible, admittedly.) I wonder if over time we are going to reach a point where the difference in speed between the semi-fast and the slow comes only south of Hitchin?

Heathrow has about 30tph if you count the Piccadilly Line, HEX and TfL.

Only counting both directions!

12tph Piccadilly line each way
4tph HEx
2tph TfL (to become 4tph then 6tph eventually as Crossrail)
