I did wonder. Why do they need to be there? I can't see a modern train needing enough water to warrant a top up during the day.
we're getting quite off topic, but it's not uncommon for the loos/sinks to need a top-up mid diagram. Often especially see intercity trains at, eg, Kings Cross being topped up (the outlets are under hatches in the platform there). And do trains stable in those platforms overnight?

There's water hatches as described above at Norwich on the platforms.

Probably also Liverpool St too?

Talking of toilets a Liverpool Street, I was surprised to see toilet paper scattered along the tracks at the the platforms there. I thought all of the stock was fitted with retention tanks?

Yes they were fitted a few years ago. There's only 1 bog in each carriage as there was insufficient room to accommodate the necessary for both to be done. No lav at all in the buffet car.

There’s only space for a tank at the number 1 end, brake frame in the way at the other end.

Four car looked very sleek parked up in the sidings near Riverside retail park Norwich today.

Much nicer than the current DMU's and silly ancient slam door junk.

The very first train has now been stabled in the upgraded Wensum sidings. It's a 755 but not sure if it's one of today's new arrivals.

The fast express trains??
Just class 90 & mark 3 stock. I often wonder whether we would've got trams if electrification hadn't happened in 1987. Would've been no running above 100mph but might have had more regular through Yarmouth's in the same way Weston gets an extension on the Great Western.

I dont think the stadlers will be good replacement for the GA HST tbh

What HST's?

If you mean the life expired mk3's and the long past it's best short hauled set they will be excellent replacements. No more creaking, lurching, squealing, draughty rust buckets.

Maybe not 'lurching' but reckon the squealing wlll still be there, and after a few months the creaking and draughts will be back ! I am sure wherever units have replaced locomotive hauled trains they have soon missed what has gone

There wont be any droplights to leave open because it isn't the 1970's anymore. Hopefully no faulty vestibule doors either, and if there is presumably a good chance of them actually being fixed with service contracts.

Much like then the Pendolino's came along and relegated this junk to us, massive improvements are coming. Everyone I know who travels on the line cant wait for the new trains, one who isn't an enthusiast was very excited to see one doing test runs as it meant the end for the old crap.
