At Acton Town, if you stand on Platform 4 (District line eastbound), a wall opposite barricades the former platform 5, which District line shuttle services formerly served South Acton until 1959, only having a single carriage (nicknamed "The Ginny") and thus the old platform was only a carriage or two long.
But good news!
In January 2019, the hoarding was removed and therefore you can now see the old platform again!

Here it was previously:

And 2019:

That previously hidden platform is an amazing sight, I never realised that the platform was so short!

I love Hebden Bridge station, also enjoying the view from Mytholmroyd station.

I drove past Clapham(Yorks) station today. Just to the east there is this pretty little viaduct over the river Wenning. The deck has been painted blue since the pic was taken so it looks even better.

Anyone else found any little known gems from the railway?
Is it on the main line or the old Clapham/Ingleton/Low gill branch?

There is this (well) hidden 'gem' in Coventry coming in from Rugby, built as part of the London to Birmingham railway in 1838:

Talking of this branch, how about this viaduct, the Waterside Viaduct, a couple of miles north of Sedbergh station site. For the best views you need to walk the Dales Way footpath. This must have been quite an attractive route to travel when it was open.

There is another nice viaduct on the same line a few miles north just before the connection to the WCML. I agree, it must of been a pretty line to travel on

Another planet...
A true "hidden gem" is a viaduct in the Lepton/Fenay Bridge area of Huddersfield. It used to carry the LNWR Kirkburton branch (closed to passengers in 1930 and to freight in 1965). So hidden is this viaduct that I'm not 100% sure exactly where it is, though it is somewhere between the former bridge over the A642 Huddersfield to Wakefield road, and the former station for Lepton and Fenay Bridge.

Though from that bridge the line ran vaguely parallel to what is now the A629, it can't be seen from the road due to tree growth and development (The Morrison's supermarket and various housing developments). At some point I'm going to try to seek it out on foot, as I've only seen photos on the "Lost Railways of West Yorkshire" site.

Do we have to confine ourselves to these new fangled steam railways?

If not I would vote for the Redbrook Incline Bridge on the Monmouthshire Tramroad. So good that it has been listed twice. Actually it spans the border so it is listed separately by English Heritage and CADW.

King Edward Bridge over the Tyne. Huh? It's extremely unhidden and not that much of a gem, but round the back of it on the Gateshead side, halfway up the very steep bank in the middle of the triangle of lines, is a true hidden gem of architecture and history.

The triangular junction at Chinley. Difficult place for a junction involving lots of bridges and viaducts.
I like this view of the converging viaducts. https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@53.3...4!1sFcSP4s7N2SCw3lRchURcTg!2e0!7i16384!8i8192

when you get into the Pennines you have to marvel at the sheer amount of engineering to build railways there. Drive from Hebden Bridge to Burnley via Todmorden and note the sheer amount of railway engineering. Viaducts, bridges, cuttings and embankments.

I would say the stations between Maidstone East and Ashford. A complete set of stylish Victorian stations (including well built brick shelters on facing platforms), gifted by the Maidstone and Ashford Railway, and (with the exception of Hothfield which closed in the 1950's) still here to pleasure our eyes today.

Hidden, because this route was always secondary to the South Eastern main line to Charing Cross via Tonbridge, and is even more so since HS1.

Agree. I travelled to Maidstone East via HS1 and Strood last year and that section of the journey felt like a forgotten backwater.
Seemed a tad rundown though.
And I don't like Kent.

It was cheap and the route NRE sent me on. I thought HS1 usually involves a premium onf price so was surprised ridiculously cheap advances were available.
Yes there is some nice scenery, but it's just too crowded for my liking. And I always feel a bit in edge when I'm in Kent, don't know why.

If you get the Ashford - Victoria, you'll have plenty of room. At least a far as Bromley S.
