Chapel Crossing on the Down Southport.

Semaphore Distant and Home on one post before Parbold.
That's not a home signal

Semaphore distant for Chapel Lane and Parbold's Up Section are on the same post in the other direction too.

Carmuirs East & West distants under Larbert Junction's starters.

Any idea when they went? I seem to recall Stirling lost some semaphore starters in 2009 IIRC, would've have been at a similar time I wonder.

Ooops

It’s Chapel Lanes Non Block on the post with Parbolds Distant

Parbolds Down Home is the Semaphore protecting Parbold LC

Any better?

Has Fidlers Ferry still got one, on the low level line (Warrington-Widnes)? I seem to recall Monks’ distant being removed but could be wrong.

Fixed distant semaphore signs approaching Dinting, and two on line between Dinting and Glossop.

I think it best to stay with working distants as the fixed ones on a white board are really outside the scope of what we are trying to find out. However former working distants on their original tall post that have been disconnected can be included I guess.
So it looks like they are extinct on the Southern , the West country , Wessex, South wales & borders line ?.
I think we are dealing with only double figures here do not forget remote level crossings with ground frames.
Are there any around the Barrow-in- Furness area or Buxton ?

The fixed distant for Grain has/had a proper distant arm and is/was mounted on post made of old rail in the Southern style. Last time I saw it was 11 years ago, whether it ever worked or if it is still there, I don't know.

I believe a colour light has replaced it fairly recently .

For Grain, I would have thought a Distant board would be more appropriate than a colour light.

Anyway, working semaphore Distants in London, if they are still there?
Dudding Hill DH2R Distant slotted on Neasden Junction NJ18 Section signal post (Up Goods)
Neasden Junction NJ1 Distant slotted on Dudding Hill DH12 Section signal post (Down Goods)

Blast, I forgot about Portrush! I believe the station is staffed though, it's only the box that normally isn't.

Yes there is still semaphore signaling at Portrush (it’s a 3 platform station so there’s quite a few). Not sure about any working semaphore distants though. I have a feeling the only distant is now a colour light signal. Could be wrong though.

These are the only semaphores left in Northern Ireland. They seem likely to remain for the foreseeable future as the station is just in the final process of a major refurbishment, and there’s been no change to the signals. Indeed one of the semaphores has been temporarily removed to be repaired.

Like Stranraer, Portush signal box is switched out most of the time, save when there are special workings.

I don't think there are any working semaphore distants left on the former Southern Region; the last one I remember was at Bexhill (and removed early 2015)
Are there any at either Marchwood or Ryde St John's Rd?

I think it was because Castlerock got such attention when it's semaphores were removed, it made me think they were the last in Northern Ireland when they were in believe actually the last somersault semaphores, with as you say, Portrush having the last semaphores of any type on NI.

Think Helsby does - or did, not sure if they’re still there.

Helsby is all colour light distant signals. There was one at frodaham up until very recently when they’ve upgraded the Halton curve.
